Kotobukiya 1/7 Yukiho HagiwaraKotobukiya 1/7 Yukiho HagiwaraReview

victorvipervictorviper6 år siden
Today, we'll be reviewing Kotobukiya's "Angelic Island" figure of Yukiho Hagiwara. She's a fairly modest swimsuit figure, but she is a swimsuit figure nonetheless, and there may be a somewhat-NSFW shot or two...

About the character: Yukiho Hagiwara is a main character from the iDOLM@STER multimedia franchise. She is a very timid girl and she strives to become an idol in part to overcome her shyness. She comes from a very traditional Japanese household, and one of her hobbies is writing haiku, although because of her shyness she generally does not share her work with others. Yukiho is also a primary character in the iDOLM@STER Xenoglossia spinoff, although she seems to be a bit less shy and timid in that incarnation.

Now on to the review.

Packaging----------8.5/10

Kotobukiya has used essentially the same packaging for all of the figures in the "Angelic Island" line. The front of the box features a large window.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910187.jpeg

The sides each have small star-shaped windows.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910188.jpeg

The back of the box features a large shot of Yukiho, some vital data, and her autograph.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910189.jpeg

The box is attractive, but those who keep their figures in the box could be frustrated by the relative lack of window area. Unpacking her, let's see what else we have...

To get Yukiho set up, her necklace must be put in place, the tiny shells in her base must be installed, and the beachball must be placed into her hands. As you can see, Koto provides an insert to help.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910190.jpeg

First, the shells go into her base.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910191.jpeg

Even though they are quite tiny, those seashells are really detailed!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910192.jpeg

Her head must be removed to place her necklace. On mine, I had to really fight with the figure to remove her head, so you might keep that in mind if you decide to buy this figure for yourself.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910193.jpeg

Her necklace is very similar to the one worn by fellow idol Haruka Amami ITEM #98896 , the only real difference being that Yukiho's necklace is silver instead of gold.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910194.jpeg

A close-up of the necklace. The "chain" is a very thin piece of thread, not unlike what you'd find on a small Christmas ornament. When I bought Haruka Amami, her necklace slipped out of the blister and fell into the bottom of the box, so that's the first spot to look if your Yukiho seems to have a missing necklace...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910195.jpeg

To get the beachball in place, I had to ever so slightly bend her arms. Be careful that it is solidly in place, otherwise the beachball could go shooting across the room! Note that the ball is not in contact with her torso, so that alleviates some fears about paint transfer.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910196.jpeg

Posing----------9/10

Yukiho's pose seems pretty consistent with her character. The way she's got her arms tucked at her sides clutching the beachball seems to illustrate the timid and shy aspect of her personality.

Let's take a look at her.

Sculpting----------8/10
Painting----------8/10

Overall, the finish of the figure is good, although we'll see there are a few noticeable flaws.

Here, we see Yukiho's face and torso. I like her light brown eyes, and they stand out somewhat more in person. Depending on your feelings about the character designs, you might view it as a plus that of all the figures in this line, Yukiho seems to have the most restrained case of "Idolmaster mouth". In addition, the detail on her collarbones is nice.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910208.jpeg

Yukiho has very short hair, so there isn't too much in the way of shading in her hair. On mine, some excess glue seems to have found its way onto the top of her head, so a little more quality control might be indicated here.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910209.jpeg

The seam in her hair is fairly noticeable.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910210.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910211.jpeg

Her side bangs tend to obscure her face just a little bit from certain angles.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910212.jpeg

There are some imperfections along the edges of her top.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910213.jpeg

There are several things of note going on in the shot below. There are a few small flaws in the finish of her bikini top. In addition, it seems like the straps on her top are just a little bit too far from her body (either that, or her top is a little bit too tight!). In addition, I'm not a big fan of the brown bow on the front of her top. Granted, it seems consistent with official artwork (see PICTURE #544047 for example) but I would have preferred just a plain white bow. It's not really a big deal, though.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910214.jpeg

Considering that it's part of a swimsuit, Yukiho's skirt is pretty long.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910215.jpeg

A couple of low-angle shots.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910216.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910217.jpeg

Her hands are decently sculpted.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910218.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910219.jpeg

She has a little bit of a seam running down her arm.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910220.jpeg
Her upper back is nicely sculpted, but you can see that the transition from her top to her back could be done a little bit better.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910221.jpeg
I do like the fact that even though Yukiho has a bob haircut, there's not just a "shelf" of hair at the back of her neck.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910222.jpeg

In this shot, I was trying to capture just a hint of a seam on the back of her leg, but it seems to have eluded all my efforts to capture it in a photo. Maybe it's not that bad, then...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910223.jpeg

Her sandals are quite similar to those of fellow idol Yayoi Takatsuki ITEM #118116 .

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910224.jpeg

I think her calves are nicely sculpted.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910225.jpeg

Overall, Koto figures have been getting better in terms in quality over the last couple of years. Thus, I'd say she's slightly above average in terms of finish relative to recent Koto figures.

Base----------9/10

Kotobukiya has used the same base design for all the figures in the Angelic Island line, as the base for each figure is a star with the character's signature color. Note that Yukiho's foot is screwed into the top layer of the base for stability.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910226.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910227.jpeg

If you have several of the figures in this line, it can be a little bit of a challenge to try to get them aligned and displayed properly on your shelf!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910233.jpeg

Overall, the base is attractive and functional, so no complaints on this front.

Overall verdict and enjoyment----------9/10

Before the wrap-up, let's have a few final thoughts and see Yukiho together with her friends.

As you can see below, the "Idolmaster mouth" effect is in fact less pronounced in Yukiho's design compared to Yayoi and Haruka. Also, Yukiho's swimsuit is a bit less frilly than the others.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910237.jpeg

Given that Yukiho doesn't have a very elaborate hairstyle, I would not have minded if she had a hat or some other accessory. Here, I borrowed Makoto's ITEM #98668 hat for this purpose.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910236.jpeg
Yukiho with her friends. One of these days, I'll pick up Hibiki ITEM #120682 and complete the set! In addition, I'll be interested to see if any more figures from this line get announced at Wonfest next month.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910234.jpeg

Never underestimate the cutthroat nature of the idol world...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/01/26/910235.jpeg

Overall, Yukiho is a fine addition to this line of figures. I like the common design themes in the outfits, as well as the fact that they are all fairly modest for swimsuit figures. If you are a fan of the character, an iDOLM@STER fan in general, or you're looking for a cute and modest swimsuit figure, I'd recommend this particular figure.

Availability (as of this writing)

Still available new, easy to find pre-owned.

As I write this, the big three (AmiAmi, HLJ, and Hobby Search) all still have her new, and she's just started popping up at US stores as well. Her MSRP was 7800 yen, but if you're a good shopper you can find her new for around 6000 yen. Preowned Yukihos seem to be going for around 5000 yen, and within the US, around $70 seems to be the typical price.

Krax6 år siden#1970147Thanks for a great review! Loved the last part, still debating whether to start an idolmaster collection. This review might push me closer to it! Hope to read more of your future reviews. Cheers!

If you start collecting this line, they will all eventually find their way into your collection. I initially just bought Miki and Makoto, but every time a new figure in this line gets released, it looks so nice. Plus, they all go so well together...

Thanks for the comment. I have quite a few reviews done that just need some edits. Probably next up will be ITEM #145147 .

Only need Haruka and Makoto (Exclusive one). I already have the Miki exclusive one.
I really like them! Nice review

I wasn't so sure about Haruka but she also turned out really nice as well. I was never a fan of the exclusive versions, though, since I like the white outfits.

Pr0wler6 år siden#1956745Thanks so much for another great review. Not too elaborate and you cover what needs to be mentioned. That said I have kept my eye on this beauty since pre-orders and for the sake of well behaving financially I skipped her and now that she's released I have the hardest time resisting her. I think this might be it though, I will cave in. There weren't many user pics around or other website reviews, really glad you posted this.

She is quite nice, although she got released without much fanfare. I guess Yukiho isn't as popular as Yayoi and Haruka...
