Hello MFC!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/07/23/1056550.jpeg

Given that the POPs for Miku, Rin and Len are on the MFC database, I'm assuming that it makes it appropriate to review POP Miku on MFC. This is the first POP figure I've purchased, and I was hesitant to purchase one because of DitzyMuffin's Harley POP which I found to be of low quality. Did I regret getting the Miku POP or was it a pleasant surprise?

At a glance...
MFC LINK: ITEM #247572
Price paid / Location: $10, Hot Topic

I should get this figure because: It's affordable and surprisingly well made. It's pretty common, and most shops that carry popular culture items will have it in stock.

I should pass on this figure because: It's by no means a replacement for some of the other Miku figures. Some SEGA prize figures are around the same price and take up less space.

As you can see, I have picked up the Hot Topic exclusive version of this POP figure. Other than the sticker, the packaging is identical to the original version. The box itself showcases the POP inside with the character's name and series on the bottom corner. The POP is numbered by which it is in the series of POPs in a similar fashion to Nendroids or Figmas, which is nice to identify how recently the figure was made.

The packaging blister holds the figure together in the box pretty well. Miku's hair is packaged decently, however I was expecting the hair pieces to have a bit more protection on them as most Miku figures have.

The POP packaging is attractive and held the figure together nicely. It's eye-catching, but nothing fancy.PACKAGING: 8/10

SCULPT/PAINT

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/upload/pictures/2014/07/23/1056543.jpeg

POPs are pretty similar to Nendroids in regards to their design philosophies: cute, small and portable. The POP figures have a semi-rectangular shaped bobble-head esque top with a really small body. Miku's POP has eyelashes, and there has been many discussions regarding its effectiveness with this figure. Miku is not the only POP that has these lashes, and I think it fits her POP perfectly.

Miku is equip with her traditional mic and headphones. For a POP, there is a surprising amount of little details. Note that the Hot Topic version also has shading in her hair. When I checked out the normal version at MetroCon, there was no shading and the hair was much brighter.

None of the POP figures come with stands, however Miku's hair keeps the figure standing, which acts as a base. I'm not sure if this will eventually cause wear to the hair, so time will tell on that.

Miku's lower body has a shiny painting on the black portions of her skirt, giving it a different shading than the dress. Sadly, there's no paint on her nails, however I can't recall any other POPs that have painted fingernails.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this POP, however the sculpt and paint are quite impressive for the price. SCULPT/PAINT: 7/10

CLOSING THOUGHTS
To be honest, I wasn't expecting much out of this figure, however since the price was right I decided to give it a go. This figure exceeded my expectations and my worries about the quality disappeared as soon as I took her out of the box. If you like VOCALOID and can't cough up the money for a shiny new Nendroid, then I would recommend getting this POP to fill the place. It's by no means a replacement for one, but it's still pretty darn cute.

I should get this figure because: It's affordable and surprisingly well made. It's pretty common, and most shops that carry popular culture items will have it in stock.

I'm might pick this up eventually. I have tons of the Game of Thrones ones, almost all of them. I also have SS Goku and a Planet of the Apes Cornelius. Very good review! Will help me make a decision :) Thanks!

I think ill only have one POP though as I'm only really looking for Miku merch at the time : 3. Maybe a luka one though if they ever release it.

AviNyah6 år siden#2317289I've never really been a fan of the POP series.. Sometimes they look kind of creepy and the vocaloid ones don't seem too bad compared to the others but I don't think I would ever add them to my collection. I know my friend adores them though and collects them, especially Game of Thrones

I only see a few small painting flaws so either the POP! line is improving or you were very lucky with this one. xD

I have two POP figures, Daryl and Michonne from the Walking Dead, but I always thought this one's face was super creepy. I think it's the eyelashes.

I've refocused my collection on Persona merchandise. Occasionally I'll cover other things, but it won't be the main focus of my blog and collection.
