Wave 1/8 Elyse (Deluxe Version)Wave 1/8 Elyse (Deluxe Version)

You know how every now and then fate smiles, and you stumble across a hard-to-find figure that you'd almost given up on acquiring? Today, we'll be taking a look at one of those figures, Wave's Elyse from the little-known Oretama franchise. Her outfit is on the skimpy side and she can be cast-off to boot, so many of the shots that follow will no doubt be NSFW. You've been warned...

About the character: Elyse (or Elise, or Ellis; along with Maryan ENCYCLOPEDIA #2157 , she's one of the more difficult characters to search for by name!) is a main character from the Oretama manga. Now, I knew nothing about the source material when this figure first caught my eye, but it seems that in the world of Oretama, a freak accident caused the queen of terror to get sealed in a rather unusual area of co-protagonist Kohta's body. Elyse is a lesser demon who is dispatched to do what is necessary to free the queen of terror. However, she takes a liking to Kohta and she is faced with the difficult decision of freeing the queen of terror or (inadvertently) saving the earth. It seems if Kohta can preserve his chastity for 30 days (and thus keep the queen sealed), the queen's power will be nullified.

If you want to know more about the manga, MFC has a decent synopsis and I was surprised to see that TV Tropes has a very informative listing as well! Despite its outrageously ecchi premise, Oretama apparently was serialized in a mainstream anime magazine!

If I keep rambling, the queen of terror might get released, so let's get down to it!

Packaging----------8/10

The front of the box consists of mostly window, handy if you prefer to keep your figures in the box.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540207.jpeg

The sides feature large shots of the figure.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540209.jpeg

That's a lot of text on there!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540211.jpeg

The wall of text continues on to the back of the box. Also Wave points out one of Elyse's more interesting features, her swivel neck joint.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540213.jpeg

This was an A-/B+ item from AmiAmi. You can see the box was still sealed, but it had some wear around the corners.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540215.jpeg

Elyse's tail and wings will need to be attached. This deluxe version of the figure contains an alternate face for Elyse as well.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540299.jpeg

To get Elyse set up, her wings get attached to her head...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540301.jpeg

...there's the spot for her tail...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540303.jpeg

The tail required quite a bit of effort to get properly set in place. Her wings and tail stay in place pretty well, but they will fall out if she's moved around too much. Her tail in particular tends to work its way out over time.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540305.jpeg

Set up and ready to go!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540307.jpeg

Figure and box are pretty compact, measuring 26 by 13 by 21 cm and the whole package weighs less than 300 grams, so shipping Elyse to your doorstep shouldn't cost a fortune.

Overall, the packaging is fine. Anyone care to translate all of that text on the box?

Posing----------9/10

Elyse's pose is very energetic. The way her leg is extended and the way her foot is pointed, she looks like she's striding along somewhere in a hurry.

Let's take a look at her.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540397.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540469.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540471.jpeg

Overall, Elyse's pose is pretty dynamic, and as we'll see, it makes her seem a little bit larger than she really is. Thus, there are no real complaints on this front.

Sculpting----------8/10
Painting----------7/10

Generally, Elyse's finish is good, especially considering she's an older figure. The design of the sculpt is quite interesting, and she has some neat details. However, we'll see that the closer you look at her, more and more little problems become very obvious.

Elyse has an interesting hairstyle, with very long bangs although the back of her hair is kept pretty short. Given that she is a demon and something of a tsundere to boot, the fang is a nice touch. At the bottom of her mouth, it looks like Wave was trying to simulate teeth; I'm a little on the fence about that, as they look a little odd from a few angles.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540473.jpeg

The top of her head doesn't have too much detail, but this is not a big deal since her hair is so short. The seam there is unavoidable since her head splits in two, enabling her optional faceplate to be swapped in.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540689.jpeg

The detail on the back of her hair is fine, and Wave gives her hair a little bit of shading. The pentagram on her back is an interesting touch. Apparently in the Oretama universe, you can do some serious hurt to a demon if you can somehow touch that pentagram.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540691.jpeg

The detail on her shoulder blades is quite nice, and all those fringes on Elyse's outfit are faithful to the manga artwork. See ITEM #104865 for example.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540693.jpeg

I like her earrings which match her tail. The front part of the earring is just a stud, and the longer part attaches to the back, so that is kind of a neat little detail.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540695.jpeg

There are two versions of this figure. The regular version ITEM #5863 gives Elyse an opaque purple top, while this figure makes her top out of a clear material. I was concerned that the clear material would make her way too ecchi, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the clear material is tinted a sufficiently dark color to allow Elyse to maintain some of her modesty. The cross might seem like a strange accessory to westerners, but such use of Christian icons in anime/manga is nothing new...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540697.jpeg

It should be noted that my Elyse had never been unboxed and the clear plastic parts of her outfit were quite sticky. Washing her top with warm water and a mild soap seemed to take care of that issue well enough, but you might be aware of this issue if you're hunting this figure.

The design of her fingerless gloves is pretty interesting and the talisman there is presumably meant to ward off the evil eye. As a long-lived demon, I'm guessing Elyse has had to do so a number of times. The way her bracelet seems to be floating free is a nice detail, although the painting where the glove meets her hand is a little sloppy.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540759.jpeg

The color gradient on the glove looks nice.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540761.jpeg

Her other glove. That's not a seam running down her arm, just reflection from the lighting set up...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540763.jpeg

Those are some super low-rise panties!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540765.jpeg

One of Elyse's most distinctive features is her g-string panties. Even though she's fairly petite, she really has a nice butt, don't you think?

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540767.jpeg

Low-angle shot.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540971.jpeg

Super-low-angle shot.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540973.jpeg

Her legs are quite attractive.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540975.jpeg

One thing that bugs me a little bit is that below her thighs, the skin tone on her legs looks somewhat darker than the skin above. If I didn't know better, I'd think that Wave was trying to simulate stockings, but Elyse doesn't wear any as is clear by looking at ITEM #104861. Admittedly, the effect is more pronounced under bright lighting, but it's there all the same...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540977.jpeg

A few flaws are visible in this shot. First, her tail wants to work its way out over time, particularly when she's moved around. Also, you can see little dark spots on her right butt cheek and right in the middle of her thigh. There were actually a fair number of such spots on the figure, so Wave could have done a little better here. And, you can see the straps on her panties are just carved out of her torso.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414540979.jpeg

If you look right down the middle of the photo below, you can see a little scratch running vertically on her thigh. There were a few other spots like this on the figure as well.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541111.jpeg

Her shoes have an interesting design.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541113.jpeg

This version of the figure has an additional faceplate. Wave goes so far as to package the faceplate in its own dedicated blister.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541115.jpeg

To swap out her faceplate, first her head is removed. As we'll see in a second, the the ball joint on top of her neck allows her head to swivel.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541117.jpeg

Her head splits into two pieces to allow the faceplate to be changed.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541119.jpeg

While we're at it, we'll cast her off as well. The bow on the back of her top has a peg in it (two, actually) to allow the removal of her top. Since the material is very soft and flexible and the top is pretty skimpy anyway, getting it removed is quite easy and putting it back on is also easy. If you own any cast-off figures, you know that's not always the case...

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541246.jpeg

As you can see, her head will swivel quite a bit. This allows great flexibility in displaying Elyse, so I'd say this is a very neat feature.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1417016437.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1417016439.jpeg

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1417016441.jpeg

Her head will also swivel up and down.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1417016443.jpeg

NSFW cast-off shots follow behind the spoiler tag. You could skip this if you want...

View spoilerHide spoiler

In her cast off state, I think her alternate face suits Elyse best. I like the blush and how she can be made to have her finger on her mouth.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1417016688.jpeg

"Hey! Were you watching me all this time?!"

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1419720561.jpeg

"Please don't look at me that way!"

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1417016690.jpeg

Elyse is a little bit flat chested, and she isn't Super Sonico to be sure, but she's not exactly a washboard. I estimate her three sizes at about 3.75-3-4 inches (9.5-7.5-10 cm). At 1/8 scale, that would make her about 30-24-32 inches.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1417016692.jpeg

Her blushing face is so cute!

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1419720563.jpeg

Base----------7/10

There's not much to say here. It's round and white.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541250.jpeg

Given her pose, Wave wisely elects to screw her into the base.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541252.jpeg

Scale Comparison

The way she's posed, she's about 9 inches in height, but factoring out the base and the way she's on her tiptoe, I'd estimate Elyse is around 7.75 in (19.5 cm) tall, which means she'd be around 5'2".

Elyse with another of my favorite demon girls, Griffon's Etna ITEM #153. In addition to their demon features, Elyse and Etna have similar body types as well.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541355.jpeg

Elyse with another Etna, Max Factory's 1/7 version. You can see that the way she is posed and with the wings on her head, Elyse seems just a little bit larger than a typical 1/8 figure.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541404.jpeg

Flonne: Hey Etna, can we really handle this demon by ourselves? She's a lot bigger than we are...
Etna: Shut up, Flonne.

.
In all seriousness, Meruru ITEM #117969 is 1/8 scale for comparison.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541566.jpeg

Sora Kasugano ITEM #12046 is a very petite 1/8 scale, Ichika Takatsuki ITEM #117391 is 1/7, and you can see how Elyse compares.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1414541646.jpeg

Some of my favorite diabolic girls. Mina ITEM #27853 is a smallish 1/6 and Lucifer ITEM #161925 is 1/7 for comparison.

http://s1.tsuki-board.net/image/victorviper1419720602.jpeg

Mina: "How shamelessly these demons flaunt their bodies."

Overall verdict and enjoyment----------9.5/10

Arguments for: Lots of display possibilities with the extra faceplate, the swivel neck joint, and the cast-off option, some really nice details (her gloves and bracelets), and Elyse hits that sweet spot of cute+sexy IMO.

Arguments against: Quite a few flaws in finish, her tail is prone to falling out, the clear plastic parts of her outfit look like they may degrade over time, obscure source material.

I'd had my eye on Elyse ever since she first came out, but I didn't buy her new which I came to regret over time. As it turns out she's quite a great figure, and so if (like me) you have a little bit of a thing for cute succubus-types, I'd recommend trying to track her down. I like her so much that if I run across the regular version someday, I might double-dip on that one too!

Availability (as of this writing)
Hard to find.

She'll show up every now and then preowned, but when she does, she seems to sell quickly so I guess people other than me still have their eye on this figure. I had almost given up on acquiring her until two popped up on AmiAmi one day. The good news is she's not too expensive, and 4000-5000 yen should net you this cute demon if you're quick on the draw!

Seems I was more lucky that I thought to find her the same day on manda and getting her confirmed today (which is typically only a 2/3 chance on manda). The fact I have not noticed her until now is an indication she is not easy to find. I have a feeling she may become one of my favorites too. It was love at first sight and a definite-must-have, more so than Silfietta and Misty. At this point my vote goes for the smiling faceplate, but that could change when I get her.

victorviper (3 år siden) #3088241It took me forever to find her, but Elyse has become one of my favorite figures. She's just so cute and sexy! I'd be interested to know which of her faceplates you decide to use when you display her.

loveanime (3 år siden) #3087826Here we meet again about an older figure. I cannot believe I did not know about this figure until I spotted the other variant this week on amiami in C/B for only 1920. Seeing a figure reviewed "VictorViper" is usually a promising sign this a figure worth considering! However, I was reluctant to take a gamble with "[Discoloration] Right leg", the reason for Item C, and I prefer this Deluxe version because of the translucency and less "harsh" colors. So I found one on manda in unopened condition at 4,000 which makes it 4,910 plus shipping because of the 500 handling fee for items below 5000 and the mandatory SAL registration of 410 yen, so right within your quoted 4000-5000 range. Based on your excellent review it looks like she is going to be worth every penny!

Maakie (3 år siden) #2565017What a cutie! I actually like the teeth in the bottom of her mouth! xD
I also had clear parts of figures in the past getting sticky, especially with older trading figures. Luckily I could clean it off easily too, but I expect that I need to give them a wash every 5 years or so (maybe even more as they get older :/).

The teeth look okay from straight ahead, but from the side, they start to look a little weird...

When I saw the box was sealed, that was certainly good, but I wondered if the clear parts would have started to leach plasticizer, and sure enough, it looks like that had started happening.

I agree completely that she is super cute! Now, I hope that ITEM #144626 will turn out to be equally cute :).

I really appreciate her older style of cute, always preferred older styles to the modern "moe era."

Yeah, it hadn't really dawned on me until an earlier commenter said something, but she is definitely different in style than what you would see in a similar figure today. In fact, I've got ITEM #144626 ordered and she is a little more modern in her moe-ness, so I'll be interested to see how she and Elyse compare in person!

Hatchuu (3 år siden) #2562357Really? I've seen her a lot - She shows up fairly often on AmiAmi's preowned section and for less than $20, though she's often not in perfect condition. Mine was $15 because she was really dusty, and I only found out earlier this year that her base is meant to be white, not yellow...... oops. But really, she's worth owning if you can find her in good condition (I don't mind owning lesser-loved figures ; w ;).

Hmm, I guess maybe I wasn't paying attention. I'll have to keep an eye out for her though, as I do like lesser-known figures. "Lesser-loved figures", I like that :).

victorviper (3 år siden) #2561314Yeah, I see where you're coming from. Her face and features are not quite as moe-fied as you might expect. Thanks for the comment!
I'm glad you enjoyed reading the review :). I think it's fun every now and then to see a figure you never even knew existed. THe idea that different materials were used for the bottom of the legs honestly hadn't occurred to me, but that would make a lot of sense.
I've thought about getting that Mabinogi figure from time to time, but she seems pretty hard to find these days. I originally hunted Elyse because I thought she'd complement my Etnas nicely, and she turned out to be a great figure in her own right!
I hadn't

A lot of figures use harder plastics for their legs to avoid leaning and those garters are a perfect place to hide seam lines.
