Why I am not waiting for WonderfestWhy I am not waiting for WonderfestAsk MFC

Please do not count this as a complaint or something like that, but I am not waiting for Wonderfest anymore.
Surely there will be a lot of wonderful figures and everything like that, but the prices for all this stuff are becoming ridiculous.
I have been collecting figures since 2006 and I am somehow proud of this, but time passes and the situation changes.
There were times when it was difficult to buy anything from Japan without using the help of Japanese intermediary. There were times when it was difficult to afford the figure because of student low salary. Now there are times when you can afford the figure, but it is ridiculous, because the figure with the price in 15800 yen for example ITEM #317823 will cost you about 246 hamburgers (in roubles). It is about 45 lunches, or the price of 30 times of going to the pool for 45 minutes.
If we will compare the price of figure now and the price of figure on September 2015, you can see that the price went up on 50%.
The amount of the minimum living wage in Russia for 2015 is lower then the price of one figure (15800 jpy).

There is no discounts in the shops, the quality of the figure easily can be low, the yen is strong and the rouble is weak, the quantities of the figures are unsufficient, the after-market also brings no discounts.
And situation will only be getting worse and the hobby is the first thing to cut your expenses on.
Maybe the right time to stop has finally come?

I always think so, thank you for the comparison with the gold jewelry. I always think that I could be able to collect some good Pandora bracelets, heh...maggie4 år siden#6161250I am in this position in a way... some items I can't resist but they are few and far between at this rate. I simply can't justify these high prices, even with amiami discount it doesn't matter after amiami uses way too much packaging, bumping the price right back up.
My only saving grace is the large amount of items becoming available on Amazon and prices falling frequently so I can grab items at low prices. I've gotten 99% better about impulse buys so the few things I get now I'm pretty much willing to pay for... within reason.
When a figure costs more than my gold jewelry we have a serious problem.

I do understand the prices for Sideshow colectibles, because of their material and limited quantity, but I do not get the Japanese manufacturers now.((((

As far as I understand, yen is getting weakened, too, and one of the more effective counter measures against bankruptcy is higher prices to makeup for the difference. As we can see, prices are x2 now as compared to 2008-2010. Yen got x2 weaker throughout these years at least as compared to USD www.xe.com/curr...

As for rouble...well, RIP rouble. Yen was never this high for at least a decade. So I look at these new gorgeous figures, make a deep sigh, and close the tab for good. Should not pre-order, it's just too much atm.

Pretty sure Alter lala is my last pre-order, prices have gone mad, quality is not on par with high price tag they're asking for.

Maybe it's time to stop and admiring what i already have :)

ponnie4 år siden#6114219I totally feel the pain. I only have several important exclusives pre-ordered but I doubt I'll be ordering anything new anytime soon. Quite luckily, the current figure trends are beyond my interests so I'm not really bothered.
The exchange rate bothers me greatly, though, because of the price I'll have to pay for the stuff I have on order. Over 10000 roubles per figure is quite out of my comfort zone. I do not really get the whole figure price raise - the quality is not much different from what it was back in 2011. It feels quite the same to me.
So I'm setting for garage kits in the future after I'll get what I have ordered. My salary is quite high but I simply cannot justify this exchange rate, it's ridiculous. It feels like many countries including ours are being pushed out of international trade..
P.S. I still remember vividly the great times when I could buy 3 scale figures for those 10000 roubles...

FreezerBurn4 år siden#6091201Sorry to hear about this :(, I've started to feel the pinch with Canada's low dollar now too. I just paid for Kiss-Shot recently. 13,433 JPY came out to around 176 dollars Canadian and our dollar just keeps getting worse.

Same here, man. I feel you. CAD's pretty down, JPY's getting stronger and it hurts(for my wallet, I guess). There are still great quality figures but yeah, the prices are high. If only I can complete/buy or the figures I want in an instant, I would probably have an instant break in this hobby. XD

Bad to hear my fellow friend, your collection is one of examples for me, how the collection should look like.Yoruno4 år siden#6090349I'd rather disagree that the quality has improved drastically. I remember reading a blog here not long ago which argued that the quality was at its peak in 2010-2011 and then it started declining. If we compare the quality/price relevance, I guess it's true.
The currency rate has gone mad in our part of the world, but I suppose the situation might be more favourable for users in other countries, so they won't share our tragedy. As for me, now I can't afford placing high bids, and, as a result, I lost several important auctions; I see some items that I need at Mandarake, but I can't buy them, because I doubt that my future is secure and stable.
I'm not out of collecting, but I've had to slow down. So slow. Much down.

Thank you! One more in the club. :((( But that is still will be a nice try to get a look at the hobby and leave the most loved, as you said.pandidora4 år siden#6090400I feel you pain. I'm from Hungary and a 10.000 yens scale figure takes up 1/3 of my monthly salary. Back in the old days it was only 1/5. I used to have much more pre-orders an average 1 scale figure/ month nowadays I'm lucky if I can allow myself a scale for every 2-3 months. Since now I live alone I have so many things so spend at! Bills, food, clothes and entertainment... I just can't squeeze in more figures and the raising prices+the bad exchange rate makes it even worse.
I don't really collect nendos/figma/trading because I'm not fond of their size and lack of detail.
But to tell you the truth I'm over my crazy collecting days and I'm very happy with the ones I buy now since I only get the ones I can't live without. Few years ago I bought a bunch of figures and I didn't REALLY want all of them, just because it was: cheap, cute or I liked the character. I sold lots of them. Being picky is a good thing on long term. I cherish the few I can buy now even more cause I fell like they're more special. As I long as I could buy 2 figures a month I couldn't really appreciate all of them individually. Now I'm thinking weeks before ordering to see if I can afford it and to test myself if I really want it or it was just hype or impulse buy.
