1/4 Rin Kokonoe from Kodomo no Jikan (Gym ver) by FREEing review1/4 Rin Kokonoe from Kodomo no Jikan (Gym ver) by FREEing review

solluxcaptorsolluxcaptor1 måned sidenReview
I'm going to be reviewing one of my favourite figures in my collection today! A little bit of an older one but a real beauty I wanted to draw attention towards. Everyone loves 1/4 FREEing bunnies, right? But bunnies aren't the only 1/4 figures they've ever produced. This beautiful 1/4 Rin Kokonoe from Kodomo no Jikan is a gym version with real clothes by FREEing and personally I love this theme. I wish they would continue to make more of these aswell as the bunnies.
Rin herself is quite a special character for me, I have loved her for around 10 years now and I will always love her. I hope to own all of her figures one day, but I am not far off currently since sadly she doesn't have many figures ;;

Here's a video showcase of her, if you want to see it:

She's so cute in motion! In real life she's even cuter.

And here's my text review:

First off I'll show the box, which definitely has one of the most interesting if not the most interesting design of all the figure boxes that I own.
https://s14.postimg.org/lmy94fuz5/DSCF3620.jpg
As you can see, the box is designed like a randoseru (specifically the one Rin wears, it even has her badge!) and it opens up like one too with a window inside so you can see Rin herself. There is also a window on the back and the entirety of the box follows the randoseru theme really nicely. I think it's really cute, unique and definitely fitting to the series/character.

Here's a full shot of Rin!

She's really just too adorable. I love Rin so much and this portrayal of her in 1/4 scale really has a feeling like she was brought to life, this was always one of my most wanted figures and I really am impressed with it now that I own it. I love her real fabric clothes and that cute smile of hers, her reserved pose and adorable look on her face are a great match. It really portrays well the gentle/vulnerable side of Rin. It feels like she's looking right at me when I look at this figure, too much for my heart to handle ;;

Close up on her adorable face below.

I think the style from the series was recreated really well in this figure, especially her eyes look just like the unique style that the artist has. Gosh, Rin is just too cute and seeing her smile warms my heart.

Another great point of this figure is the detail on the hair!
https://s14.postimg.org/ner7zbbr5/DSCF3584.jpg
Rin has really long hair and it is definitely one of the first things you will notice about her so they couldn't skip out on details with her hair and I think they did a great job. The strands are all really well defined without being over the top and there is a lot of detail.
This picture brings to mind another point however, you definitely want to display this figure on a higher shelf! Otherwise you will be looking at her like this... she needs to be viewed from below due to her pose. If you place her on a higher shelf, she will be gently smiling down at you, so that's the best place to put her.

Here's a photo from the back!
https://s14.postimg.org/8isorq829/DSCF3612.jpg
I like the realistic touch the clothes give to the figure and viewed from the back you can really feel that realism, even her back has the right curves in it to give some realistic depth. Unfortunately my figure has some light staining from the navy on her top that you can kind of see on her back, but it's not too bad for a figure of this age and could possibly be washed off if it bothers you.
For those who are curious, yes she is wearing bra and panties underneath (sculpted/painted on) and you could probably remove the clothes if you were determined. I haven't done it personally and not sure how it would work with her pose.

Here is the base on it's own
https://s14.postimg.org/ner7zcm1t/DSCF3615.jpg
It has a surprising amount of detail and definitely portrays a gym mat as it's meant to, but it's not overly exciting. You can display with or without the base since she is a sitting figure. I think it does add a nice aspect to the figure and theme but it's not overly necessary.

I took a photo of 1/4 Rin with my trading figure Rins for a bit of a comparison
https://s14.postimg.org/xotmyjm75/DSCF3607.jpg
As you can see, due to the sitting pose and her size she is not overly tall in height but she definitely has a lot of presence due to her 1/4 proportion and huge hair. After all she is still a child so her 1/4 won't be the biggest but this figure has a lot of weight to it. She is really impressive to look at! She will definitely stand out in a display.

Now, just for fun, here's Rin with Nendoroid Rin.
https://s14.postimg.org/j5mhx4lch/DSCF3599.jpg
Aren't they cute? I feel like 1/4 Rin looks like Nendoroid Rin's big sister here and little sister Rin just wants to play together.

I hope that you enjoyed this review! I really do like reviewing figures, although I'm always a little doubtful about reviewing older ones because I know there is less interest. Still, I am passionate about this figure and if one person can enjoy it I'm happy! I can't wait for some of my pre-order figures to arrive for some newer figure reviews, though.

solluxcaptor (1 måned siden) #31691376The box design is gorgeous!! And ahh these are really worth it, they don't cost too much in the second hand market iirc including the Lucky Star ones. I wanted to get some of those too :D
(Btw sorry I'm so late replying to your Yugioh message!! I haven't forgotten it I swear, just university keeping me busy so I only pop in and reply to stuff briefly. I'll reply to it soon ;-; )

Yeah, especially these older 1/4's seem to be really worth it, because Freeing's quality was always very good, and especially compared to nowadays figure prices, you can get a 1/4 of their older figures for the same price or less than a 1/8 will cost you nowadays!

The Lucky Star ones have still been tempting me all those years. If I do remember correctly, most of them in standing positions won't fit in a regular sized detolf (even though they are small girls), which was one of the reasons holding me back. Talking about 1/4 figures, I do think I will be getting ITEM #676240 , though...

Lol, no problem! You know how slow I can be with replies too! Just reply on it when you have time! :)

Maakie (1 måned siden) #31653147Thank you for this review! I never saw a picture of her box before, I love the design! *O*
When these gym sets were up for pre-order for the first time I was doubting on-and off so much about getting the Konata. Back then 11K yen for a figure, even though it was one in 1/4 scale, was a lot and I could not see myself spending that. I laugh now thinking back at that, considering I spend way more nowadays on 1/8 scales... :P

WanderingWastrel (1 måned siden) #31342315As someone who also owns this figure (well, the red uniform version), I think your review really did the figure justice.
Ooh I'm jealous that you have the red uniform version, that one is hard to find! And I'm glad you think so :D
