How to spot a fake figure and where to purchase figures onlineHow to spot a fake figure and where to purchase figures online

Hi Everyone,

I am new to figure collecting, and have a couple questions (I hope I am asking this in the right spot).

My first main question is how to spot a fake/bootleg figure? I pre-ordered both the Itachi (ITEM #595161) and Sasuke from EknightMedia.com, and got the Itachi a couple weeks ago. I am however a little nervous that it could be potentially a bootleg, and wanted to ask for advice on spotting if it is real or fake. I have not taken it out of the box yet, so I have not actually examined the figure. I did notice that my box does not have the shiny/holographic sticker that I have read that indicates the product is authentic, does that mean it is a fake? How can I tell if it is authentic? I can upload pics of the box if that will help.
Also, do you not have to worry much about bootleg figures for pre-orders since it just came out, or is there bootleg figures for new ones as well?

My second main question is concerning where to buy figures online? I have read that a lot of people recommend AmiAmi, is that the best site to go to?
What about the website I purchased the items from, Eknightmedia.com, does anyone know if this is a trustworthy site, and if they deal with bootleg items? I have pre-ordered the Sasuke that goes with the Itachi figure, as well as a Good Smile Shiro 1/8 scale figure from No Game No Life. I don't want to keep these orders if they are sending fakes.

Any help you guys can provide for either of these questions would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

This question wasn't really covered so I'll answer it. Yes, you do need to be weary of bootleg figures for pre-order figures. A dead give away is when the bootleg figure is available before the figure has been officially released.

to add to this, ive seen it happen multiple times, especially at local conventions. i went to one of the largest conventions in my state and a booth in the dealers room was selling ITEM #321897 even though she hadn't even been released yet! so definitely check mfc entries for any figures you want to buy.

This is the reason I don’t buy from sites that I have never heard of I only buy from amiami, Tokyo otaku mode, mandarake and if the figure is exclusive I will use nippoon yasan I have only bought from NY just one time but everything went smoothly no problems at all. When I started collecting figures I bought some from amazon and I got fake ones I wouldn’t recommend amazon tbh.

There’s also CdJapan I have never bought figures from them only manga but they are trustworthy.

Also right stuf anime I buy from them manga and figures.

Yes, as a few people have said, which shop/s you buy from will really depend a lot on your personal circumstances/preferences. Esp if you collect a lot of from Bandai, they looove to make a lot of their figures limited release in Japan, meaning it's not going to show up on a lot of the regular Japanese sites like AmiAmi etc. Some storefronts like Big in Japan might get a limited number of preorders, but they sell out quickly and sometimes require upfront payment. Otherwise getting the Japanese version can mean having to buy through a proxy, which gets expensive. But then those same figures will get a regular release internationally so they're easier to buy (and sometimes cheaper, though not always). So having a good international store for those kinds of figures isn't at all a bad thing, especially if waiting a month or two isn't a problem.

I buy figures in Eknight media for Bluefin release such as naruto and dragon ball figuarts, there legit, and for me one of the best customer service I had for US supplier.

I buy mostly my scale figures and figma in AmiAmi, not to happy with their customer service but I have been buying from them for 10 years now and I like that you can combine orders per month releases

Man...I hated not knowing if figures/merch i got were bootlegs or official when i first started. The feeling of getting into this hobby and trying to take in as much info but there is LOTS to learn so keep learning! Thanks to this awesome community it wasn't as difficult as i thought it was going to be. 2yrs later i'm still learning new things about this hobby! Good Luck! ;)

The sticker does say bluefin on it, so that’s awesome that means it is legit. Thank you for pointing that out.

Those stickers on the back look like the distribution stickers (think one of them is a Bluefin one?) which means it's official. It shows the figure has gone through an official distributor outside of Japan.
