Today I would like to present my loot for June 2018. Surprisingly in June I didn’t have anything on pre-order, which was an absolute blessing. Since I didn’t have any items I needed to save up for, I took the opportunity to buy some other assorted anime related merchandise and treat myself to a little Mandarake order. One of the first forms of anime related merchandise I started collecting was anime DVD box sets. This was basically the foundation of what my collection is based on and with so many figures coming out it is hard to keep up to date with all the anime releases coming out as well!
So I decided this month to focus mostly on hunting down some older anime box sets from a whole bunch of different locations and regions. So the loot post we will be looking at today will be all my findings over the course of June as well as the contents of a small Mandarake order I did as well. I’ll do my best to describe each item, where I got it from and if applicable link each item to its appropriate database entry here on MFC.
So without further ado, let’s dive in and explore my pickups for the month!
[WARNING - THIS IS AN IMAGE HEAVY REVIEW]
________________ LOOT POST+ MANDARAKE ORDER – JUNE 2018________________
Here is an overall shot of all the items I got for the month of June.
As you can see at least 70% of the order are anime box sets with a few other bits and pieces thrown in. Let’s take a look at each item individually and explore what is here!
_______________FINAL FANTASY XV – PLAY ARTS KAI & COMIC ANTHOLOGY ______________
✜ Gladiolus Amicitia - Play Arts Kai (Square Enix) ITEM #346978
✜ Final Fantasy XV Official Comic Anthology Part 01 ITEM #587981
The whole reason I basically decided to do a Mandarake order was so I could get the Play arts Kai of Gladio Amicitia from Final Fantasy XV. I got the Play arts Kai of Noctis in the limited edition version of the game and originally had no intention of getting any of the other characters. But after going to Japan, picking up some extra merchandise and getting my hands on Lunafreya, I had quickly become addicted to these figures. I knew that collecting the rest of the Chocobros would be difficult considering I am rather late to the party in terms of getting these guys. They go for stupid crazy aftermarket prices which makes getting them now more painful than ever. However Gladio magically popped up on Mandarake and I couldn’t miss the opportunity, so I snagged him up instantly!
He is absolutely amazing and his sword is incredibly impressive, out of the 3 I own so far I have to say Gladio is my favourite. The detailing running along the sword is beautiful and I just can’t get over its size! He makes for a very impressive display piece, especially alongside his Square Enix Café exclusive Acrylic stand and metal pixel pin! Only 2 more bros to go till I have finished my Play Arts set!
Because I didn’t want to just get Gladio and nothing else, I decided to flesh out the order and add a few more items in order to justify the shipping. One of these items was the Final Fantasy XV comic anthology book, which I surprisingly did not own yet! Just got to track down the second part now.
_________________ ANIME BOX SETS ________________
Next up we will be looking at the main bulk of my loot for June, my Anime DVD and Blu-ray box sets! I have a big assortment of different kinds of Boxes from Japan, Australia and even the US!
✜ Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions seasons 1+2 Premium Box sets
The first 2 box sets we will be taking a look at are my best pickups for the month. The limited edition premium box sets for Chunibyo seasons 1 and 2! These are the US editions of the series and are rather hard to come by. Season 1 of Chu-2 has been long out of production and is really hard to find, while season 2 is still in stock on most US online retailers. I managed to get both of them on Ebay for a real great price – The box for season 1 had a little dent on the top right hand corner which brought the price down significantly, which I was absolutely fine with as long as the spine and inner contents were all there. Speaking of which, these sets come with an amazing assortment of extras:
Each box comes with both the DVD and Blu-ray of the entire series as well as a massive array of extras, including posters, postcards, stickers, keychains, badges, a necklace and even replica books from the series! They are amazing sets and I am so happy to finally own them both!
✜ Tokyo Ghoul Root A Blu-ray Box set
Next up is the Japanese complete blu-ray box set for Tokyo Ghoul root A.
Here in Australia we didn’t get a box set for Root A (despite season 1 getting a premium box set), all we got was a small fat pack which didn’t match with my large box for season 1. Consistency really gets on my nerves so I couldn’t turn down this beautiful box for season 2. The colour scheme isn’t what you would expect from Tokyo Ghoul, but there was something about the Pink with blood and sprays of colour that really resonated with me. The set contains all 6 limited edition blu-ray volumes. I love the cover art for each volume and how it carries over those colour splashes featured on the box art. Beautiful!
I got this Box set from Mandarake as part of my order with Gladio.
While I was in Japan recently I managed to get the box set for the two OVA episodes for Tokyo Ghoul, which now means I now have all the seasons and OVA’s in my collection. Now to wait for RE: to come out on DVD and Blu-ray!
✜ Clannad After Story DVD box set
Next up is the complete DVD box set for Clannad After Story, which I got from Mandarake.
The boxes for Clannad are absolutely gorgeous. They are made of this soft canvas like texture that adds an all new element of visual design to an ordinary DVD storage box. I already own Season 1 of Clannad so I was super excited to have both sets complete side by side! The box set contains 8 volumes in these thin clear cases that feature beautiful art from the series. I love how the art is horizontal rather than vertical like most DVD cases, such a unique and beautiful way to represent the series.
✜ Hyouka Volume 1 with Storage Box ITEM #114248
A box set that has been on my hunting list for a while – Hyouka! I got this from Mandarake
Hyouka is one of the lesser known productions by animation experts Kyo-ani, and in my opinion is one of the best productions that have produced in recent years. This is the Japanese edition of the series and is just the first volume of the Blu-ray that comes with the storage box. This series actually has 4 boxes that make up the entire series but I mainly wanted to get the box for display purposes. The storage boxes are always the hardest thing to acquire so if I tend to find them for cheap ill snag them up and fill them with the rest of the volumes separately at a later date.
The first blu-ray volume comes with a small art book and 2 bonus post cards. The art is really clean and simple, the full scale artwork featured on the box captures the characters and series perfectly. I love it!
✜ RE:ZERO Volume 1 with Storage Box ITEM #430830
This next box was something I found completely by chance for sale on Facebook. I saw it a couple of times online but finally caved for a cheap price. Here we have the first Blu-ray Volume for the anime RE:ZERO along with the storage box.
This is the first storage box out of a set of 2 that holds the entire series. I absolutely love the clean box art along the sides and spine – featuring the iconic flag ship girl Rem on the spine just in case you were not sure what series it was amongst the others in your collection.
The first volume comes in a really well packaged and designed slip case with both a small artbook and an entire light novel acting as a prologue to the series!
✜ Arakawa under the bridge Volume 1 + storage box
This next box I got on Mandarake for just a few yen – Arakawa under the bridge season 2 volume 1 with storage box big enough for both seasons 1 and 2!
Arakawa under the bridge is a unique comedy by the masters of gorgeous animation, studio SHAFT. When I saw the box art with its soft pastel colours and holographic text I couldn’t resist. The Box only comes with the first volume of season 2 but it actually large enough to hold both seasons together in one box! Really awesome.
The first volume of season 2 comes with a small artbook and 2 postcards!
✜ Toradora complete DVD Box set (Hanabee)
✜ Sword Art Online complete Blu-ray Box set (Madman entertainment)
✜ Excel Saga complete DVD Box set (Madman entertainment)
And finishing up the last of my anime box set loot is 3 Australian box sets, Toradora I got from a local seller on Facebook while SAO and Excel Saga were purchases from Ebay.
✜ Aku No Hana Original Soundtrack CD ITEM #164038
While not a popular opinion, Aku No Hana is one of my favourite anime series of all time. The rotoscopeing animation technique created a realistic and unsettling atmosphere to what is a horrific story within a realistic world. The soundtrack is what makes up half of the series, it is a beautiful collection of dark atmospheric soundscapes and haunting garbled vocals. I am currently on a quest to own official merchandise in relation to Aku no Hana and obtaining this piece leaves me with just 1 more CD to obtain in the media department!
✜ Mikuru Asahina ORANGE Ver - Cosplay Netsuke Dainidan Set (Nendoroid Plus) ITEM #35170
✜ Haruhi Suzumiya ORANGE Ver - Cosplay Netsuke Dainidan Set (Nendoroid Plus) ITEM #35171
✜ Yuki Nagato ORANGE Ver - Cosplay Netsuke Dainidan Set (Nendoroid Plus) ITEM #35172
✜ Mikuru Asahina ORANGE Ver - Cosplay Netsuke Set (Nendoroid Plus) ITEM #16956
✜ Haruhi Suzumiya ORANGE Ver - Cosplay Netsuke Set (Nendoroid Plus) ITEM #16955
✜ Yuki Nagato ORANGE Ver - Cosplay Netsuke Set (Nendoroid Plus) ITEM #16954
What we have here are some Haruhi Suzumiya nendoroid plus keychains. They come in sets of 3 and were originally available in different Animate stores across Japan. Each region/prefecture had a different set unique to their area which made collecting them all a great challenge. Besides the sets of 3 you could also buy 2 large sets that contained ALL of them in one box. While I own both of the complete large box’s, I am also trying to get all the sets individually as well. I got both of these sets on Mandarake as part of my order. Step by step ill have them all eventually.
✜ Flamie Speeddraw papercraft model
The final item from my loot for the month is a small adorable paper craft model of Flamie Speeddraw from the series Rokka No Yuusha.
The scale figure of Flamie is one of my most saught out figures and is somewhat one of my holy grail figures. I havnt been able to find her just yet…but to tie me over till then, I picked up this paper craft model of her on Mandarake pretending it’s the real thing. Maybe one day Flamie…one day…
And that just about wraps up my purchases for June! I am really happy with my purchases this month. Thanks for sticking with it me this entire review and I hope you enjoyed seeing all the items I got. If there is anything you would like more information on, more photos or any items you would like to see a review on please let me know! More than happy to help out!
Hope you all enjoyed.
Thank you so much for your time,
