Hello everyone. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been active on the community part of MFC (seems like it’s really been split into pre and post-V4 fallout haha). Regardless, I’ve taken a long absence from the site for personal reasons and besides uploading some stuff around WF time I haven’t shared many of my latest projects here. After thinking about it for quite a while, I thought at the very least, I owe it to this community for introducing me to a lot of things and I should continue sharing my finished works.

This character, Akazukin (i.e. Red Riding Hood), is an original figure by the circle Tamapiyo. Tamapiyo is a smaller sculptor but I’ve been a fan of her work since 2015 so when I saw the chance to buy and paint this kit I jumped on it! The resin was a nice off-white and the parts fit together well but unfortunately she was completely covered in small air bubbles. Most were taken care of but after sanding and re-priming around three times I decided to move on haha. Fully built, she stands around 12 cm tall (4.7”). Her face is about the size of an American penny!

I decided to keep most of the original color scheme but there were a few things I changed. I wasn’t a fan of her brown hair and I tend to favor pink color schemes so I decided to keep things simple and went with a warm palette. She also has some small additions like ribbons to her hair, scratching on the axe, etc. Lately I’ve been interested in elevating my technical skills so there was a little less focus on prep work and more on developing my painting and shading techniques. Akazukin is painted with lacquer, enamel, and acrylics by a variety of brands. Obviously she has some minor flaws but overall I am quite happy with how she turned out.

If you are a fan of my work please consider looking at my other photos on here and/or follow my FB page, Instagram, or Twitter. I am more active on there for obvious reasons and am more than happy to answer questions or chat about anything. Thanks for reading and please enjoy the photos :)

Rajke2 år siden#38882407Really impressive. If you’d say it is a high quality scale figure i would believe it. What kind of brushes are you using for the eye? I seriously thought that it is a decal. That really means a lot, thank you so much! These days I tend to favor Tamiya's Modeling Brush HG series. My most-used brush is the extra-fine brush but I use the ultra-fine brush as well. I have a few from their Pro-II line which work great as well. All of these brushes don't fray or have little bristles falling out which is a must-have for me since I like to work on smaller kits.

Akira2 år siden#38897666Ahh, I missed your blogs! This one doesn't disappoint either! I also thought her eyes were decals by how clean they looked but I'm so amazed by how clean your stuff looks now~
Great choice in making her hair pink, It really suits the figure!
Thank you Akira <3 Yeah, I decided to reevaluate my painting style a little and finally paint how Japanese sculptors do it lol. If you have an airbrush this method is actually quite easy! Simply paint your base skin tone in lacquer, seal with a high gloss, and then use enamel paint/thinner to paint the eyes. The enamel will not mix with the lacquer or sealer so you can easily wipe off any mistakes with enamel thinner. Funnily enough I used to do a similar method with craft paint but this way you end up with a much flatter paintjob (hence the decal-look). You still need some skill and knowledge of how to paint an anime eyeball but overall it's pretty forgiving.

tsubaki242 år siden#38852711You're back!! I started to follow you on here since you showed your WIP and I became fascinated with the whole process of how a garage kit come alive (from prepping to finished product). I can understand if you want a different approach going forward. You've gained a silent follower on Instagram ;)
Akazukin looks fantastic. Nice work on the shading and yes, her eye looks stunning.
Yes I'm kinda (???) back!!! lol. And hey thanks a bunch! I've been trying to be better about taking photos during the building process because what comes so naturally to me now may not be as easy for others haha. I try to update on IG but usually it ends up with me just dumping a bunch of stuff when I remember;; Oh well lol
