! This blog is about a figure in a swimsuit and could be seen as NSFW by some !

Ok, I'm promising that the walkthrough of this GK is a way smoother one than the last few! Also, this GK is the first one where I 'officially' try out shading, so I was very excited to work on it!

This blog will be mainly 'told' by pictures with a bit of commentary from me.

Preparation

https://i.ibb.co/rtZsxrW/IMG-5203.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/qBGTpPr/IMG-5203.jpg

The kit had a few tabs here and there that needed to be removed, but the rest was extremely clean. So far this is the kit with the least amount of prepping I ever had to do!

https://i.ibb.co/3MN90Df/IMG-5204.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/L9czQ8c/IMG-5205.jpg

Such tiny parts! Also notice how I already scraped my fingernail with the knife 100 times.

https://i.ibb.co/R3vtyyj/IMG-5206.jpg

The most special are the full clear parts of this kit. I had to be very careful with prepping them, to not accidentally scrape it and make parts less clear.

https://i.ibb.co/Qr82CV5/IMG-5207.jpg

Making all the parts ready for their bath! Also notice how this kit comes with 2 faces, which is very nice!

https://i.ibb.co/z4wxypN/IMG-5216.jpg

Now everything has a nice layer of white undercoat and the actual painting can begin!

Painting and assembling

https://i.ibb.co/Z6hRtqN/IMG-5225.jpg

Considering most of this kit is skin color, I started off with that. I paint in many thin layers, to try and keep the amount of visible streaks as low as possible.

https://i.ibb.co/Qv3qcK4/IMG-5229.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/xYTm50M/IMG-5230.jpg

*Makes a shiny booty joke*

https://i.ibb.co/vX7368V/IMG-5234.jpg

I always like to see 'handwritten' touches like this by the sculptor!

https://i.ibb.co/mq29h3c/IMG-5235.jpg

Trying my best to give her toenails a cute color! With how big this kit is, it would feel strange not to paint them!

https://i.ibb.co/jMxzst5/IMG-5236.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/kDw4fm0/IMG-5237.jpghttps://i.ibb.co/Yf59tRB/IMG-5238.jpghttps://i.ibb.co/dt1r9Tn/IMG-5239.jpg
The faces are a lot of work in very small steps of correcting small mistakes and adding new details.

https://i.ibb.co/0BzpXyb/IMG-5240.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/yhCH6L4/IMG-5241.jpghttps://i.ibb.co/sJbV285/IMG-5242.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/jywcf1d/IMG-5243.jpghttps://i.ibb.co/kqQWkXw/IMG-5245.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/dgBB10h/IMG-5246.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/q9J1Xbs/IMG-5247.jpg

I don't want to brag, but I'm pretty happy with how her default face was turning out!

https://i.ibb.co/NtPHTtR/IMG-5244.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/Fw4NdPf/IMG-5248.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/Q6wJ8k9/IMG-5250.jpg

In earlier pictures, you can see that I first painted the hair in one color of brown. In Yurie's character design you can sometimes see some different shades of brown in her hair. I am actually not sure if that is because of shadowing or her actual hair color, but I decided to roll with it and give her multiple layers of brown shades!

https://i.ibb.co/svgBC4L/IMG-5249.jpg

While the many layers of brown were drying one by one, meanwhile I started painting her float ring! The bottom of the float ring was slightly-see-through white of color, so I used white paint very thinned down to get this effect as I did not find any clear paints at the moment of writing. It wasn't until a few weeks later that I visited a convention and had a talk with CHOBITTSU , that I found out that Tamiya actually has a white clear paint. Oh well, too late for this project now, but I will keep it in mind for my next one!

https://i.ibb.co/Yj7sKQw/IMG-5251.jpg

I think there are at least 8 different browns in there, but I stopped counting after a while, haha!

https://i.ibb.co/Hg1rqfh/IMG-5252.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/DbKT1X8/IMG-5253.jpghttps://i.ibb.co/9GgL6tN/IMG-5254.jpghttps://i.ibb.co/rp6j3T1/IMG-5255.jpghttps://i.ibb.co/gW1t16S/IMG-5256.jpghttps://i.ibb.co/chjbWQz/IMG-5257.jpghttps://i.ibb.co/SPWKbrr/IMG-5258.jpg

I tried to make the dots look a bit 'randomized' instead of a pattern.

https://i.ibb.co/JHB9D0H/IMG-5259.jpg

Working on the beach ball was a lot less nerve wrecking as I didn't have to try and paint perfect circles!

https://i.ibb.co/YR706r2/IMG-5260.jpg

Meanwhile, I also started on painting Chou.

https://i.ibb.co/MMnvBxm/IMG-5261.jpg

Yurie's companions are the tiniest pieces I have probably every painted!

https://i.ibb.co/3WjfK1s/IMG-5262.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/GHDQRqL/IMG-5263.jpg

Chou's face is less than half the size of my fingernail! I am scared for the moment where I will have to paint her eyes, to not make her instant derp.

https://i.ibb.co/m83JTML/IMG-6857.jpg

There were so many little parts needing small bits of paint and then some time to dry, I was switching them alternatively for painting.

https://i.ibb.co/xL05bNG/IMG-6858.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/tmnmtfZ/IMG-6859.jpg

After a long day with lots of switching...it seemed like I barely made any results, haha!

https://i.ibb.co/NNzQBzX/IMG-6860.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/zFf0Sns/IMG-6862.jpg

Some of the tiny details I was working one included painting the inside of the mouth and sandals.

https://i.ibb.co/TTDL52M/IMG-6861.jpg

Unfortunately because of all that handling I managed to break the ponytail of Chou. I managed to re-glue it, but it does not look as good as before...

https://i.ibb.co/cxSdDqx/IMG-6863.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/Gp8HRP1/IMG-6865.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/7GR8ZGn/IMG-6866.jpg

I'm very happy with the progress of this tiny guy!

https://i.ibb.co/wybz0mF/IMG-6867.jpg

The progress so after a couple of days of work, everything is about 90% done painting and it's mainly adding more details and pastel shading some parts which is left!

https://i.ibb.co/N1MqDZW/IMG-6868.jpg

I'm very pleased with how the final face, especially the eyes, of the default face turned out!

https://i.ibb.co/vX4yznS/IMG-6869.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/thMG8ZK/IMG-6870.jpg

I started with assembling the finished parts of her body before adding pastel shading.

https://i.ibb.co/9hS9Q02/IMG-6871.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/1J9sS53/IMG-6874.jpg

Pastel shading is go!

https://i.ibb.co/0rrCN1z/IMG-6876.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/T0vDQn7/IMG-6877.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/PxL0NrR/IMG-6878.jpg

First some cute blushes on those cheeks!

https://i.ibb.co/dtYD4Df/IMG-6879.jpg

Some shading inbetween her toes.

https://i.ibb.co/qpMSjPw/IMG-6880.jpg

General less-intrusive shading on the body. On purpose I have left her swimsuit without shading as I thought the shine of the original paint was already quite neat and the pastels could maybe remove some of that gloss.

https://i.ibb.co/tMLwznR/IMG-6883.jpg

Assembling some more!

https://i.ibb.co/ZX9dwG4/IMG-6884.jpg

Assembling and gluing the tiny parts! She's almost done!

Finished kit

https://i.ibb.co/bv0YnQb/IMG-7600.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/xSt3nrs/IMG-7601.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/ZNpD4mF/IMG-7606.jpg
Pinning seemed almost impossible, but the glue here became a mess, oops. Lesson learned.

https://i.ibb.co/b1g3rmY/IMG-7609.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/yWp03K4/IMG-7613.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/gTppyY0/IMG-7612.jpg

https://i.ibb.co/FqRZ1jb/IMG-7614.jpg
Some fanservice.

https://i.ibb.co/Lk8BsWY/IMG-7615.jpg
Additional face and copyright info.

And here is my finished piece! Overall I'm happy with the new techniques I learned for shading, I will for sure re-use and improve it more with my future kits. I am also quite pleased how the small parts turned out. What I think needs improvement is more consistency with detailing (such as the amount of shading and the pattern on the float toy). Overall, this is the kit I'm happiest with from all the kits I made so far!

See you at my next blog, which will be a snack loot post!

Rajke1 år siden#39952780Those tiny figures will sure give me nightmares if i had to paint them. They turned out really nice. I love what you did with the hair color of Yurie. Those overlapping colors compliments her face so well. Also her face looks great too. She has cute eyes. :D

Thanks for your nice comment! :) The things you pointed out are exactly the things where I have spend most of my time on, so I am happy to read they were appreciated! ^^

Stacycmc1 år siden#39879306Yeah some folks blow my mind with their ability to do such detailed work on teeny tiny little parts. I struggle for sure...LOL!
Yep...so is perfect her suit is shiny!! Worked out well then!

Yeah! My friend has been painting Warhammer for...15 years or so? I think it's super impressive and although I love the look of their models, I could never get myself to the painting of such tiny pieces. In the time where I make one full GK, she does like 3-5 small guys for her army! xD And she re-does sooo much parts!

In all honesty I did not expect it to look so well, but I am pleased! :D

Maakie1 år siden#39878964Thanks for liking the project! :) I do still think I need some practice with really small parts, such as eyes. My friend who paints Warhammer can get actual multiple colors into the teeny tiny eyes of her wood elves, so I know on which level I want to get. xD
I imagine with this scene that Yurie is already in the swimming pool and floating, so her suit should look wet! :D

Stacycmc1 år siden#39878247LOL, she looks so cute, great job!!!! I laughed real hard when you mentioned trying not to insta-derp the little fairy, LOL!! I so know what you mean, painting those wee bitty eyes and such, and one wrong stroke goes from awesome to full on awful...LOL!! I think it all turned out great though, so thanks so much for sharing her! :D
Oh, btw...I too love the shine on her bathing suit that you mentioned, makes it seem wet, which seems pretty fitting here! :D

KKtelo1 år siden#39824727Aww shes adorable, awesome job! I wanna get into garage kits, maybe in the future (ノ﹏ヽ)
Those small pieces sure look tricky to paint too.

Thank you! :) Garage kits are a super fun hobby! :D I wouldn't recommend this one as beginners' kit though, because of all those small pieces. Go for something without too much small details and pieces. For example, some generic schoolgirl. ;) Good luck!

darkfader1 år siden#39821022Nicely done. I wonder if a matte finish would make it even better. But then again, she is probably playing in water.

Thanks! :) The gloss finish was on purpose and especially meant for her bathing suit to shine. Although preference can be different of course. I think she would have looked good matte too!

Moro1 år siden#39817113My lack of desire to use airbrush is partly practical (I don't have a fume hood, don't want to go outside to paint, and have asthma and cats) and partly stubbornness (being told for ages that you'll never get good/smooth results without an airbrush. I beg to differ.) Funnily enough painting is alone time for me. For my primer on any model I use Tamiya ultra-fine. Anything else is too thick for gunpla. Not that the Tamiya stuff is cheap either, but it's a little more affordable than Citadel's spray cans. (I use Mr. Super Clear for topcoating because it won't melt my acrylic paints.)

I practically have everything to be able to airbrush, but even for cosplay-purposes (which I always do alone) I'm not really feeling it. :S Thanks for the tip on the primer! Although I do like how Citadels' primer works, it's very expensive for using on GK's. For the topcoat of this kit I used a new one from a local model brand (not at home right now so can't check the name), but it did it's work decently. Will maybe switch to another one when the can is empty. Mr. Super Clear has been recommended to me before, but I haven't found places where I can import it for an affordable price yet. :x
