Hello everyone! I’m back with another kit to show and tell. This is the lovely little Alice from Alice in Wonderland sculpted by the circle ice9. This kit was sold briefly in 2011 (hard to believe I’ve pined after this one for 8 years lol…) and caught my eye immediately. I finally bought her from Yahoo! Japan Auctions around 2017. I spent a chunk of time doing all the prepwork and priming that year but held off on painting her until now...from what I remember, I was prepping multiple kits during that time and ended up switching to another project.
Anyway, the prepwork on this kit was pretty straightforward and her 21 parts fit together well so I don’t have too many progress photos. Most of the problems I ran into were self-inflicted...for example, I ended up painting her stockings twice because I wasn’t happy with how dark the color came out (even after testing it on spoons lol). See below.
The hardest part was painting on the diamonds on her skirt since there were no guidelines other than a few dots. Masking is my least favorite part of building so I ended up cleaning off and free-handing some of the diamond details. Below are a few other miscellaneous WIP photos I took while painting (many more are on Facebook).
The kit was pinned together easily and stands on her own.
Her outfit was coordinated around her soft yellow orange hair color. The diamond pattern on her dress was created with masking tape. There are no guides!
This horrible darker color lol...it ended up clashing way too badly with the rest of the kit. Sad but these things happen haha
Eyes in progress as well as my usual step by step. These ones were fun and I had no idea what I wanted until I was actually painting them.
I’ve wanted to paint this kit for many years so I’m very satisfied with how cute she ended up. Because she is an OC, I decided to change the color scheme and eye style to fit my personal preference. I didn’t go into this kit imagining a pastel color scheme or her eye style at first so once I started painting she took on a life of her own. Fully built she stands 17 cm tall. I added a small Alice in Wonderland themed pocket watch which is fully functional! I was also sick of using plain backgrounds so I glued over 200 paper flowers to a poster board to fit the pastel theme. The board itself is quite nice and I’ll probably hang it on my wall later haha.
That’s about it for now. Thanks for checking out my blog! There are more pics available on my other social media. You can also follow my work on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or my NEW website Plum Workshop. I update to my Facebook page pretty regularly and I’m also happy to announce I bought my own webspace where I can FINALLY upload my high quality photos without Facebook compression. I guess it doesn’t matter too much since I upload them here as well and MFC is pretty good about sizing lol. 2019 is the year I’m chugging along, changing things up a bit and heading in a more professional direction so hopefully you’ll see more from me soon :) Cheers!
