Overview

I did a more in-depth review of the original white colored figma Bride and Groom, focusing on poseability, accessories, etc. here: BLOG #39405

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/05/07/2209654.jpeg
Accessories, stand, face options, etc. are all the same. Two faces, four pairs of hands, a wedding ring (groom, white box same as original groom) and a bouquet (bride, deep purple, matches the dress). The price is the same (4,500 yen each) and the production was the same (limited Wonderfest release with a limited max production run instead of typical made-to-order limited run they do with other WonFes figures)

This review will just focus on the differences between them besides the obvious color difference of the suits. I had some suspicions from pics online, some of which were verified in hand so I thought it might be useful for others who are curious like me! Hopefully shorter than my normal reviews.

Groom Noir

Unlike the original release where I thought the bride was better, this time I would say the groom is the star of the show. For most North American weddings, the groom wears black, not white, so figma Noir Groom looks much sharper to me in his snazy black suit with dark grey vest.

What's more interesting about the figma Noir version is that the skin tone of the face, hands and neck have been noticeably darkened. It now matches much more closely the standard figma male skin tone. It's pretty obvious when you put them next to the original figma Groom

And you can see in the pic above how the skin tone now matches that of figma Shirou Emiya 2.0's pretty closely.

But interestingly they kept the wrist and neck joints the same color as the original figma, which is much paler.

I was hoping they made some adjustments to the length of the neck but sadly they didn't. You can see how weird it is with various male figmas I own by looking at the pics I posted of the original figma groom with various head swaps in this album (users.v4.php?cu...).

Overall, I'd say I prefer figma Groom Noir over the original figma Groom. But it still has a poor price/accessory ratio and the compatibility with male figmas is still difficult with older ones (newer ones with ball joints in the head are easier to work than the simple joints).

Bride Noir

There's not much to add about the figma Bride Noir version. It's not a black dress, but a deep purple, which is pretty attractive, but not what I would call "Noir". I wish it was a more stylish black.

All of the white pieces of the original bride, including underwear, stockings and shoes, now have a similar purple color.

As with the original figma bride, the dress and shoes and anklet have nice sheen to them. It makes the purple look sharp.

Probably to reduce paint transfer they left the top of the dress near unpainted on the inside. It looks cheap, but how often will you look at this piece of solid plastic from underneath?

Interestingly, they made some improvements to the design of the bride body.

Most significantly for those looking forward to the cast off feature, they've improved the design so that the top connects to the bottom much more closely. There is still a slight gap, but it is less.

They've also simplified the connector piece, removing the center peg and notch on the right.

So those are pretty good pluses!

They've also darkened the skin tone of the figma from the super pale of the original. It's not as noticeable as figma Groom Noir, but when they are next to each other, it's pretty obvious. For example, it now matches figma Rin Tohsaka 2.0's skin tone.

Overall, it's not bad, particularly if you missed the first release or like the color. But it's not a color I was particularly looking forward to, so I'm not sure how I'll display it yet. Maybe you can use it as a maid of honor dress?

Summary

The price/accessory ratio is still pretty low. Even though there are some design improvements (skin tone for both and cast-off feature for the bride Noir works better), the overall problems with compatibility for male figmas remain. I think the ideal for most is probably the Noir groom and the original bride.

And as usual, here are some pics with Rin and Shirou head swaps as examples, since they work quite well!

It's not as long as my other reviews but hopefully it's of some interest. Thanks for reading!

illumi4Love1 år siden#58600464I'm not into figmas but I like the figmas groom in white admittedly.
Also the bride's blue dress is beautiful, the color makes the dress details pop and also I love the Fate series, so 5/5 review, I'll be sure to check your blog entries.

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. Hopefully you enjoy my blog reviews even though they can be long winded :)

Senbei1 år siden#58571865Great review! It's really nice to see a comparison between the two versions!
I remember reading your previous review because of the pics of Shirou and Rin which I thought was super cute! It's nice seeing them in this review too!

Thanks! I'm glad you like them :) I didn't post as many interesting pics this time because I wanted to keep it shorter than normal, but I'm glad to hear some people like it so I'll keep it in mind next time. Unless someone else does it, I plan to do a review of the figma swimsuits and expect more pics with Rin and Shirou then! :)

StephieHerbert1 år siden#58561084Thanks for the review! I'm happy to see the changes that were made with the skin tones and the bride's body! I really like these generic sets they are doing, though a slightly lower price point or more accessories would definitely have been appreciated.
Indeed! I’m all for a “figma plus” line but the price needs to be more reasonable if they are keeping the accessory count low.

I’m looking forward to the swimsuit bodies. As mass releases the price is much more reasonable!
