Activity of my blog + personal updateActivity of my blog + personal updateDiary

Hello MFC! This will be a long text-post related to what will happen in the following months to my blog, together with a personal update. So it's probably only interesting if you like my blogs or are friends with me here. If you're not interested in that, feel free to skip to another blog!

You might have noticed my blog being quite active recently with almost every week 2 posts for quite some months! The reason for that was...well, I got an cut in my hours at my job earlier this year and after that was inbetween jobs for a while. Even with jobhunting fulltime, the fact that I did not have to work tremendous amounts of overtime (which was very common with my employer back then) and also didn't have the travel time for work anymore, left me with so much more free time that I finally could get to unboxing a lot of my figures that were in storage, write reviews about items I already made pictures of a long time ago and so on. Most of the content you have been reading recently was mostly written somewhere inbetween January and March and then small finishing touches were made by me just before uploading it on the dates you see. It was also an interesting experience for me as well to work with such 'timed' posts and be the editor of my own blogs which I already wrote months ago.

Anyhow, to all 'good things' (as my situation was a plus for my hobby and a minus for my career and income) come an end. At the moment of writing this, I have run out of my already created content and my new job has kept me so busy I could not work on creating anything new at all since I started working there. I'm very happy at my new job and it's a huge improvement over my old one. As I now have returned to government work, my work-life balance is slowly getting better, which is something I really can't stress enough to people that is really important. A lot of people say to go for 'the job you love', but the thing is, at least in my experience, I would get way too much into my 'dream jobs'! Sacrificing free time, relationships and money to get to my goals at work, which in the long run is just not a healthy situation. I won't start a ramble here, but if anyone wants to talk about this some more or needs some advice/someone to rant to regarding this, feel free to comment or PM me.

Another big thing also happened personally, which is right now also eating up a lot of my free time: My husband (temporarily...?) moved to another country for work. I already hinted at this in earlier blogs, about him looking for the next step in his career, which meant he/we would probably have to move away from our small European country, as that kind of work can't really be done here. The big companies in his industry are mostly in the Northern part of Europe and the USA. Considering our main monetary investment is our house, we knew that if he would find something new, that he would try it out for a while before we do anything rash like selling the house (the faster you want to sell, the lower the price...) and me also quitting my job (the job I have had a huuuuuge test and is really hard to get into, once out you can't easily get back anymore as well). So it would be the best decision for him to try out that new job/country for 1-2 years before any following steps...so that means...we have gone back to being a long distance relationship! We started off as one as well, with him living on the other side of the country of where I lived, and after 2+ years doing that we could finally get a place together, which was amazing. After that we spend a lot more time together in different cities/apartments, to eventually buying our first home together 3+ years ago. A lot of people find our current choice to live apart again 'weird', as they would expect us to go there together right away, but my husband and I are convinced this is the best choice. He can now 'try out' the country to see if it's something where we could be happy permanently, and it also gives us the opportunity that if we move there, we can make smart financial decisions as we want to invest in a new house in the new country right after selling our current one. But anyway, I'm going too fast already! Because he is still trying out the job, he might not like it as much as he does now in half a year or a year time, and if that scenario would happen, he can now still easily come back. We'll see what the future brings and we'll visit eachother at least 4 times a year for longer periods of time (pretty much using up both of our vacation hours at our jobs to see eachother the time we can get off).

Oh...I completly forgot to mention why his moving away is eating up so much of my time even though I did not move together with him: THE. DAMN. PAPERWORK. Moving away to another country for work is not easy, even if you have an European identity and stay within Europe. Paperwork upon paperwork to just get him an apartment there, health insurance, vaccinations, get the taxes sorted properly, close off the accounts he has for things that are only for our Dutch government, our mortgage and I can go on and on and on. It's been 2 months since he moved there and we are still both busy every night sorting out things for either of our sides of the things that are coming up. Stupid things like you just doing your thing and suddenly you'll be like "Oh shit the car insurance of our shared car is still on his name" and then as we can only talk in the evenings after work, and a bit on the weekends, something as small as that can take a long time to get sorted. Anyhow, I'm expecting this kind of stuff to calm down a bit once we get more close to the end of the year, and that also concludes my point of my activity on my blog: I hope to pick up blogging actively again more at the end of the year as well. I got many nice loots which I haven't been talking about at all, which are from big group orders, garage kits and some Japanese snacks/food as well. I'm super motivated to sort through pictures and start writing about them, but sorting out my private life instead comes first.

I'll probably continue to be slower in replying to comments/PM's in the upcoming months as well, but rest assured that I will reply to everything you write to me. :) I'm very excited for the possible changes in my life, together with feeling so blessed about both my husband and I being way happier in our careers, I really think this will make us more personally happy as well when we can live together again.

Any questions/tips/remarks, just fire away! :) Thanks for listening to my rambles, MFC! And I hope to soon invite you to my blogs again!

ifob81 år siden#75017527Wow! Lots of changes! Hem, can you remind me of your job, and your husband's ?

We both work(ed) in the games industry, he is a programmer and I am a manager. When I wrote this blog I was working an inbetween finance job after leaving a very stressfull project manager job. Now I am finding a manager-related job again after moving to Finland, because the work-life balance is a lot better here, so the chance of me working myself to death is a lot smaller. :P My husband is also very content with his new work here. :)

Hi Bearcat!! Thank you so much for the kind comment! Just sometimes hearing people say they still enjoy/appreciate my blog is nice, don't feel forced to leave comments on them or anything. :) I'll return again!

Rajke1 år siden#65185013Congrats on yours and your husbands new job. I agree with you on the work/prive balance (Working to live instead of living to work). It is easily forgotten. Especially if you do work that you care about. :D Good luck on your new job.
It was a fun read and i love reading your blogs.

Thank you for the very nice comment as well! :) And yeah, to be honest, I would actually prefer to work even less hours than I do now, but where I live jobs are either a lot of hours or very little, there isn't much work to do with for example ~75% hours. But it's a huge improvement in work-life balance compared to my previous job and I'm enjoying it so far, so I'm happy. :) And also for you: my blogs will return and I hope you'll keep on looking forward to them! :)

ZoidsFanatic21 år siden#65081740Grats on your new job! I... know every well the feeling of job hunting. Not a great feeling. Wish I could offer some secret advice about everything else but I sadly can’t. Instead I hope for the best for you two. Sounds tiresome but also in a positive way.

With jobhunting, there isn't much advice except for: Spend a lot of time on finding that new job (work at least fulltime hours at home towards this goal) and try your best with your network (LinkedIn is your friend). With my current job, I was incredibly lucky that a friend pointed out the job opening to me as I personally had missed it because of the weird job title it was uploaded with! But I think that also helped me with there being less competition on the application. ^^''

You make good points about work-life balance. I've seen a lot of friends fall into this trap of overworking themselves to chase a little bit of extra money. People end up on call 24/7 or traveling perpetually and living out of a suitcase; several people in my circle of friends took jobs like that for a while and made good money but burned themselves out and eventually took lower-paying jobs where they actually had some free time to themselves.

What you describe was exactly my situation. I was also traveling a lot. At home I would almost always have my work-laptop and work-phone switched on. When I visited friends/family I tried to keep work-related items bagged as much as possible, but yes, I still had them with me and would sometimes turn them on...the motivation for bonuses and the pressure with deadlines was so high. I didn't crash and burn, but I probably would have if I had done that job for a longer time. Which really scares me when I look back on it, but I think I've learned of it as well. My current job is quite a lot of hours as well, but they don't expect me to do anything from home and overtime is almost non-existent. Probably when I get my evenings free again I'll be confused of the free time suddenly opening up, haha!

Redliger1 år siden#65128753Don't worry, it will all work out. I know you two can handle this. :)
Maybe once the dust settles you'll have some time to work on your kit projects. ;)

I actually already did manage to work some more on kits recently! As earlier this year I had a bunch more free time. Except for Prom BLOG #43149 , nothing of it is finished though, haha! But I maybe can get to finishing some and blogging about them later this year. Your reply made me update this list so you can see: LIST #55583 . :)
