Review: 2010 Racing Miku (GSC Pop Up Parade)Review: 2010 Racing Miku (GSC Pop Up Parade)

galabluegalablue3 måneder sidenReview
Well, I did not expect to be doing this review today!

I got home and walked in to my room and saw a package sitting on my desk chair. I was like "huh, wonder what that is?" Turned out to be ITEM #740198 that shipped FOUR DAYS AGO from GSC in Japan. How did it get here in four days?! I got the 1 month long free shipping! Well, I won't complain~! (`▽´)

So I did what any good figure collector does when they get a figure. Immediately rip open the box and start taking pictures! I ended up taking them out in the living room because I thought the light would be better, so enjoy my orange chair photographs.

The box was in good condition when it arrived to me. The figure has the standard manufacturing packaging which includes tissue paper.

BACKSTORY
Well, this one has a little bit of a funny back story. It's actually my first ever preorder. Up until now, I had only purchased preowned. I had been staring at this figure when she popped up in my email and I couldn't get her off my mind. So one night when I was a bit, ahem, intoxicated, I somehow managed to make an account on GSC and purchase her. I ended up buying her in yen because I didn't know you could pay in USD, but lesson learned.

I was a little worried that I may have made a mistake in buying her. For starts, she was very shiny in her pictures. I like more matte finish figures, but I couldn't get the orange color out of my mind. The other thing I was worried about was her hair. It looks a little stringy. But, again, I bought her for such a small amount. Pop Up Parade figures are very affordable, I believe she was like 35USD (but again, I paid for her in yen lol).

BOX / PACKAGING
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325376.jpeg

Surprise, surprise! Miku is actually STILL IN HER BOX. I held myself back from ripping her open like the animal I am in time for the pictures.

More pictures of the box underneath the cut.

View spoilerHide spoilerhttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325377.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325378.jpeghttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325379.jpeg

The box itself is pretty simple in design. It's a plastic box but is very small and compact (the figure is small as well). I like the cool graphic design but I'm always a little bummed when figures don't have any art from their character on it. I'm guessing all of the Pop Up Parade figures have a similar design/box? I am not sure, as she is the only one I have purchased from the line, but after seeing her quality for price, I would definitely purchase again.

The box also had a nice little insert on the bottom when I removed her.

View spoilerHide spoilerhttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325382.jpeg

The figure out of the box was well wrapped in plastic. Miku is in one piece and her base is in another. They are wrapped separately in plastic. Miku only has one big piece of plastic over her, but it seems to have worked.

BASE

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325388.jpeg

The base is a hexagonal orange plastic base. It's semi transparent but leaning more towards the frosted look, which is a nice balance because the figure is so shiny.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325391.jpeg

As you can see, Miku has one plastic peg on the bottom of her foot that will attach her to her base. At first when I locked her in, the peg was still sticking out a bit, so I had to use my muscle and press her down a little further.

Voila! Here she is in all of her glory! 360 degrees under the cut.

Let's start at the bottom and work our way up with Miku...

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325401.jpeg

I love the design of her shoes. It gives her a futuristic vibe that I wouldn't really expect from this outfit. I find that her sock boots are really cute and I like how detailed the heels are.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325414.jpeg

One of the things I don't like about this figure, however, is that standing foot. It looks misshapen. I don't have the same issue with the floating foot, but I think it's because of how the toe looks. To be honest, for a 35 dollar figure, this doesn't bother me too much but it's definitely not my favorite part of the figure.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325400.jpeg

Her sock shoes are very cute and have a milky coloring to them. Surprisingly, there is very little red bleed. I expected a lot more but can see just a bit of it.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325408.jpeg

Miku has very slender legs and lovely calf definition from the side.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325413.jpeg

The back of the legs do not disappoint me either. I was surprised to see this much detail in the back of her knees for a figure of this price and size. Too bad I won't be viewing her from the back, because she has a lot of great detail from behind.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325412.jpeg

Speaking of behind, Miku's butt View spoilerHide spoilerhttps://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325403.jpeg in this figure is great. I think it actually looks better than the prototype did, which is saying something. I also think her shoulders look great. The more and more I actually look at figures, the more I realize that I love backs.

I like her overall design of her outfit as well. I noticed that the shirt and shorts actually come apart right above her butt, which is a cute little detail I did not notice in the prototype.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325404.jpeg

Miku's tool belt is jam packed with an assortment of tools. When my dad saw her he commented on her outfit, said he liked her belt, and then peered a little closer, and was like "does she have a tool belt?". Yes, she does! She could probably fix your car no problem. I'm learning that Miku Hatsune is a woman of many talents.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325406.jpeg

On the other side of her belt she has another pouch, which makes her feel balanced. I also wanted to point out her fingers. I think they are cute, albeit a little stubby looking in my pictures. Her hands shooting out give her a radiance and presence that I enjoy.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325407.jpeg

Moving to the front of her outfit, everything is well done. I like how you can see the stitching in her clothing. Her gloves come up just the right amount and her hair is visible in just the right way and shapes her body. She's totally fun and playful. I find that this Miku is a very well balanced figure.

After further examination, I see some paint bleed from the red into the white here.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325411.jpeg

I love how her gloves attach, I love her collar bone, and I absolutely love how well the "patches" on her outfit look. They are sticker perfect! It's probably one of my favorite things about this figure.

Now, for the moment you have all been waiting for. The face...!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325409.jpeg

(☆▽☆) Wow. What can I say. The prototype didn't honestly wow me in the face department, but as soon as I took off the tissue paper I couldn't help but saying "she's so cute!". My mom came over and totally agreed, even patting me on the back excitedly. I find her expression is perfect, full of joy and wonder. I also love how natural and subtle the blush is on her face. It's not too noticeable but gives a nice shading to the figure.

I also LOVE her bangs in this figure. They are whispy and give her some motion and make her look like a little bit of a tomboy. Not sure why I get that vibe, but I'm loving it.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325410.jpeg

Miku's hair seam is hidden by her ear protection, which would be needed on the race track.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325417.jpeg

Her hair is where the sculpt fails me. Although I like the zig zag in the back of her hair, the rest of her hair is pretty sloppily sculpted. Where her twin tails meet her head leaves little to be desired. It looks like I smushed it together with clay. The attachment of the twin tails to the head is very sloppy in my opinion. It cost me all in around 50USD for this figure so I shouldn't really complain ... but the sculpt is so good everywhere else that it really bums me out. I'm glad that you can't really see this from the front.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325416.jpeg
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325415.jpeg

I was afraid that her twin tails would have been too thin, but I am surprised to say that I think they are the perfect fullness for this size of character.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325426.jpeg

One thing I do not like is this neck. I know it's a cheaper figure, but I do not like how the face is attached to the neck and how there is this large "seam" on both sides. I am glad it's not very visible from far away or with how I will display her.

COMPARISONS
https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325418.jpeg

Of course I had to compare Pop Up Parade Miku with ITEM #676314 ! When I was getting out my comparison figures, my mom said "awwww I love her in her witch outfit!" Well, sorry racing Miku, but you haven't dethroned halloween miku from her throne of cuteness in my household!

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325421.jpeg

These two girls look so cute together, and I like how they could face each other if turned properly. I think I'll display them together for the time being.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325424.jpeg

Next up is ITEM #774937, AKA godzilla Miku. She towers above her little racing self. I love wedding Miku because my friend got her for me, but both my friend and I agree that she is too large in our opinions.

https://static.myfigurecollection.net/upload/pictures/2019/11/01/2325425.jpeg

Why did I place her next to ITEM #91356, my 5 year old self's husbando? Well, sorry Hiei, but you're STILL the smallest figure in my collection. I was thinking that this Miku might take the cake. I guess with your dragon you're about the same size? I wouldn't pair these two together on my shelf at all, but I do think it's funny that he's still the smallest I own (besides ITEM #20329, but she's seated).

FINAL THOUGHTS
I had a lot of firsts with this figure. Preordering is definitely something I've done since then, but she's the first one to arrive, and it was a good process. I also really like the quality of Pop Up Parade for the price -- I feel like it's a step up from prize figure, perhaps? I also think it's cool that GSC is trying to keep some figures affordable to keep collectors in the game, as figure prices are rising and rising every day.

I don't feel like she is too shiny for a matte lover like me. My dad did express that she's a lot shinier than the rest of my figures, but I think she looks very good under my lights in my cabinet. Now I only have to find a better spot for her...

Will this make me want to buy a shiny figure in the future? Not really. If her hair was shiny, her base was shiny, and everything else was shiny ... it would have been a no go for me.

I would recommend any Miku lover picking up this figure. Her expression is adorable, her details are amazing, her back sculpt is great ... did I say how cute she was?

Downsides are her twintail sculpt towards the head and that ugly jawline seam ... but we can look past it for the price point.

Thanks again for reading my reviews! Hope you guys had a safe and wonderful Halloween, and a happy November to you! ٩(^ᴗ^)۶

jenniyah (13 dager siden) #75296329I stumbled on this review while looking at other released POP UP figs, and man, it looks quite different from the stock photos right?

I do agree, it looks a lot different from the stock photos. I don't know how many other people have reviewed PUP figures, so I can't really say if my figure is good/bad compared to others (with prize figs sometimes you get a good one sometimes you don't). The main areas which don't look good are her feet and her twintails (where they attach on to her head).

I was going to get the PUP versions of the Nekos, but decided against it since they are only 6 inches tall. I think they'd definitely get lost on the shelf, and are not worth the 40 dollars plus shipping. I'd personally rather put that 80 bucks (if you get both of them) towards a better quality figure.

Basically, you get what you pay for with these Pop Up Parade figures -- just because they're from Goodsmile does not mean they'll turn out good, haha. But I will say this Miku does not really get lost on my shelf, and she is a nice addition, but I don't know if I would have bought her if I had known about her bad sculpt in some areas.

I guess when compared to the 100+ figures, it's of course worse quality, but even compaired to Taito, which is cheaper, the POP up still looks quite worse. The sculpting on the outfit and hair look lack luster and not as defined as Taito's.

Very disappointed by the final product pictures, has me doubting if I should order the Nekos..

Yukatune (3 måneder siden) #69843460I love this figure, but to be really honest, am I the only one feels like Taito figures look better when it comes to atleast the hair sculpting? I feel like GSC could've put more effort in that.. She looks amazing but the hair kind of bothers me personally ^^;; I liked reading this review though! Was really interesting ^^<3

i agree with the hair. the halloween miku is a taito miku, and i feel like her hair is 100 percent better than PUP's hair. it honestly looks like i molded it with play doh, and i could have done better. everything else on the figure is good quality for the price though.

Now only if GSC can lower their prices across the board

like victorviper and i were talking about, we think one of the reasons they're able to have her at such a good price is because she's so tiny. i think if GSC were to lower their prices across the board, they'd probably start making their figures smaller. well, i'd say that, but we have stuff like ITEM #872680 being made, which is around the same height as this figure but much longer and is a lot more expensive.

actually, after seeing how tall this pop up parade miku is, i think ITEM #872680 won't be so bad in the height department. i just hope that QC for it is good, or else it won't be worth that crazy price tag.

victorviper (3 måneder siden) #69822894I'm glad someone on here finally reviewed one of these Pop Up Parade figures.
I've been torn on this figure concept. I certainly approve of the idea of companies trying to make items that are a little more budget-friendly in this time of crazy expensive prices for new figures, and the quality of the figure looks pretty good considering the price point. On the other hand, seeing this item with ITEM #774937 makes you realize that Sega is producing really good prize figures at an even lower price without resorting to using such a small scale (this Miku is what, about 1/9 scale?).
Also, you hear stories of drunk dialing and drunk texting all the time, but you seldom hear about drunk figure ordering :).

I went and looked up the other Pop Up Parade figures, and they all appear to be exactly the same size at 6.63 inches, so I suppose if you pair them together they'll all look uniform. But you're right, I feel like they're saying "hey! we're doing good quality figures for cheap!" ... but really, they're skimping on the size to make the quality good. My Halloween Miku was very inexpensive when I purchased her off of Amazon on a whim (lol), and she is larger and might even have better sculpting quality than the PUP figure in some places. If the PUP Miku was a little bit larger, I feel like it would have been a lot better. But you're right, I feel like they're fooling us a bit with the price by making her so small when there are prize figures for cheaper that are at an actual scale.

And haha, keep my wallet away from me when I get back from a night out on the town! x) Or else I'll preorder everything!

Maybe I need more figures featuring toolkits to get my dad to appreciate them XD

She's really cute!! Probably one of my fav racing Miku designs, so it's cool GSC made another figure of her

inioli (3 måneder siden) #69813540I hope she won't be too tiny next to the other 2010 racing scale.

She is pretty petite, but I feel like depending on how you set up your collection, she could find a really good space where she doesn't look too small.

I really enjoy her pose and her face expression - it's if she's like "ta-da" and surprising a racer by fixing their car/bike/racing vehicle.
My only wish is that her outfit is more matte but overall it's a really cute figure.

Haha, I love that image! And yes, I don't particularly care for shiny figures, but she actually looks very nice underneath lights, and her matte hair/base helps a bit.
