Explanation/Apology to MFC : Missing MessagesExplanation/Apology to MFC : Missing MessagesMisc

What Message?:
If you received a message notification message from me, but could not find the message, it's because the admins deleted it due to excessive spam usage of the messaging system. How excessive? About 1500+ messages

1500!? Why!?:
Well, these efforts usually see low rates of success. If you're curious, I got about 30 participating responses. That's a 2% success rate. BONUS: I got many kind words from the community, even if they are not participating. It really did make me happy to hear that others thought my idea was fun or a good idea. I also got some mean stuff, but it comes with the territory.

The list was made from going through the wishlists of users with certain figures, and I mostly pared it down to only people active in the last 2 months or so.

Apology:
I made a resolution for 2020, and was a bit over zealous in my efforts. Like showing up to a JAM-PACKED GYM in January because everyone wants to start the year right with their greatest attempt at making the year better. That's me here. I didn't want to look back and regret not making a serious effort.

In doing so, I have created a hassle for the admins and bothered more than a few people, I'm sure, and for that I apologize. Probably went too overboard here, too much at one time. However, I will be dialling back the self-promotion greatly going forward. Mostly because I don't want to get banned, haha, but also because I want to use the site to just check out content and chill with the community instead of pushing my own stuff all the time. So again, I'm sorry if I got on your nerves with the excessive self-promoting, and I hope we can move forward and enjoy the site together! You'll definitely see me around.

Moving Forward:
I'll write another article in the coming days to answer common questions like, what are my goals exactly/why am I doing this. In the meantime, if you sent me a message, and still want me to read it, please send it again. My inbox/outbox got wiped clean. Thank you!

I was wondering why my email told me I got a message but it never showed up.

PanchitoMatte Emilia-tan Maji Tenshi!
This might be an unpopular opinion...

PanchitoMatteTo the ADMINs/MODs:

If you're going to delete something, especially something within our own profile/manager, have some transparency about it... I had a similar situation occur with a comment I made — you guys edited out what I wrote about Nippon-Yasan. Put yourself in our (the regular boarders') shoes for once, please. Thanks.

If it was just advertising in the messages, probably a couple of people complained about spam leading to the response they took to delete them all.

Nobody likes being canvassed.

tharglet6 måneder siden#73983549One person sending one chunk of messages can be fine, but if you have lots of users who decide to do the same thing, it can massively add up. And when you do a mailshot, you'll also potentially cause a "cascade" of messages, where users start replying to the message(s) sent, which can increase load on the system, with no distinct advantage to the site owner. So more bandwidth and storage costs for potentially nothing in return.
Gmail's restrictions are probably mostly to stop people using it for unwanted spam, but if you have millions of users, a small percentage increase from each user a lot of emails.

Ah, that makes sense. 1,500 becomes maybe 3,000. Probably all at the same time. When people get home from work >.<

WarehouseKid96 måneder siden#73983424Ah! No wonder... I overestimated technology. Thought we had reached the point of just being able to send infinite email, literally. It's just text :p Shows how little I know.
As for the purple.... yeah lol. I just picked Twitch purple and didn't change it. Should do that now.

tharglet6 måneder siden#73983402Yeah, sending that number of PMs on a site is likely to attract the wrath of admins! Even looking up gmail, they limit you to 500 emails/day (or 2000/day for gsuite). If you want to do mailshots, you need to spread them out, and use a system that is happy with you doing sizeable mailshots. And consider something like a Twitter feed to get information out there (so you can limit things you need to mass-mail for).
And possibly consider changing the retina-searing purple you've chose as your background colour ¬¬.

Oh yeah, it was the giveaway. But I understand it. The admins have a stance and order to maintain, and they've been more than fair to me with my efforts here. Is what it is. No problem, gonna move on! Just wanted to clarify because I was getting messages from people who were confused about what had happened. One person even reported me because he thought it was fishy, haha!
