Garage Kit: Jeanne Alter by Carve Models / Holy Night SupperGarage Kit: Jeanne Alter by Carve Models / Holy Night SupperDiary

It's been literally years since I posted anything, due to certain crappy government restriction MFC is a VPN only web-site for me and this makes posting content somewhat.. well, restricted.

I want to share a project I finished late November last year which is still one of my forever favourites because it was a fun challenge build. Also, it's the famous Jeanne D'Arc Alter from Fate/Grand Order, my 2-year-old mobage addiction :3

Note: it's a very long read, and picture-heavy. Those who read till the end will have extra gacha luck in their soonest grand summon. I bless all you patient people with SSR!~

Particularly, it's a drunken Jeanne kit by Carve Models which was a great hit back at WonFes because she was a part of great diorama bar! My dream since then was to somehow get my own Jeanne in a bar.

Why bar? This kit is based on one of the prettiest Christmas event craft essences, Holy Night Supper. It was an event shop purchase type CE, so all players who got into FGO in time for Christmas with Jeanne D'Arc Alter Lily Santa (gosh, that's a long name!) most likely have this nice card in their collection.

So, drunken Jeanne it is!

I don't have much pics of prep work since it was basically cut sand polish repeat but some notable things are:

— her hair, I think it was 13 parts total, that had to be pinned together like a puzzle, as well as quite horrible seamlines all over which got me through several TV series on Netflix easily
— because of massive fluffy hair I used my hairdryer more than usual to bend the somewhat warped hair strands so they fit around the shouders nicely
— most of the kit is assembled with magnets because I needed to travel with hew to an exhibition
— her mid-dress part just wouldn't fit no matter how much I tried so I just added a few folds with putty for gapless look
venue across the country
— even the tiny glass of vine has a magnet because I'm not a fan of spreading epoxy glue in spots like open hands and such

It actually took me about 30 hours to prep her and all I have is puny half a dozen pictures ^^"

Somewhere along the way during final pinning I had to plan her bar base. It was a challenge somewhat because exhibition venue had a rather strict limit of 20 cm max for the base so I had to deal with that. I wanted a real wooden bar and I know just the man who can help build literally anything figure and diorama related from wood for a humble price. So I did a rough sketch with cardboard scraps and designed how I wanted the base to be, including spaces for lighting the bottle shelves.

My crappy poster tack and cardboard sketch and some similarly crappy outlines:

I live in Russia so my cyrillic markings are probably unreadable for most of you but anyways, that's my draft to explain what I want to get in the end:

The wood master literally said 'say no more' and gor to work with such devotion that in just a few days I saw what my bar is like!

Next was cleaning the kit to remove all the mold release and resin dust aaaand straight to the fun part. Painting!

Oh, it was a lovely ride, I think I painted 80% of the kit all in one go just because I couldn't stop :3

One should always begin with the most important part of the kit. In my case, panties that no one will ever see again under her dress. I'm proud of them, really. Used some nice SMS chameleon paint for Jeanne's sexy underwear. That's a fancy panty someone wears under an evening gown, right? Right?

After Mr GX-114 matte paint panties are smooth and look pretty much like thin slightly see-through neylon fabric which is what I was aiming for.

Some more smaller parts before getting to the big ones.

Nylon stockings, similar to her panties because proper beautiful and angry dragon witches like Jeanne do think of matching those for an evening out. And reddish satin shoes to top those!

Glass of wine which is actually a pain in the *ss thingy made of two parts that wouldn't fit at first so I had to sand that teeny bit of wine more than I expected, also her armour (?) part and the soft leather bar stool:

Next, the hair! I lost count how many actual colors I used there for gradients and highlights. Dark Jeanne's hair is usually very pale gray but I really wanted the softer pinkish flow like the CE illustration.

And finally pre-assembled to see how it all fits together:

At this time I was in berserk painting mode because all these pinky gradients make me all hyped up for what's coming next!

The skin! Right, the skin. Whenever you paint a blonde kit skin is a b*tch. Slightly off the very light tone and instead of pretty pale girl you get a gyaru type one. My first attempt was just like that so I scrapped it.

bleh (((

So I used Gaia white flesh as a base without any tweaking and Lascivus clear pale red for shades. And a moostone pearl layer on top before matte sealant for that divine glow of soft, smooth, perfect white skin. Royal, I should say!

Now we're talking!

The real fun part, her lovely dress, I saved for the end. I wanted to experiment with shading purple. So now I can say with full authority that when you think how to pre-shade such colors dark as deep purple, don't think black. Never think black. Think red.

I used only clear paint on gloss primed resin so it takes quite a few coats for candy effect to start stacking. Best thing about dark clears over white is that you have full control of shades in highlights with just one airbrushed color. My paints:

So dark clear red is the base pre-shade color and then I slowly built dark purple layer by layer over that. Worked like a wonder! I also added sapphire blue pearl to the top of the parts and ruby red to the lower rims to create a reddish-purple gradient similar to the illustration.

After matte finish it al turned out...sublime. Silky. Perfect. The first time ever I was wooing over painted parts like a happy baby! So that's why there's so many pictures.

Next was mostly detail work. The teeny gems on her sleeves:

These were hollow initially so I added a dab of Molotow Liquid Chrome, then clear redm then a drop of UV gel:

Also added some details to her dress and sleeves but no pictures of that. The face!

I wanted something more intense than decals that came with the kit so I took out my enamels and brushed and just did it.

Outline first:

Then seal with clear and behold my insane (really, never repeat that!) masking skills:

I wanted a small gradient in her iris but it's so small only I can see it's there. Sorry. Extra blush was added with Tamoya skin weathering kit which is a nice set of extra fine pigment pastels. Ooof, isn't she a cute drunk? :3

And a teeny comparison pic with the decals. Hand-painting is tough but it gives so much more freedom~

Careful assebly was the next step, it took me a few days because I gradually glued all her hairpieces together.

For thosу who noticeв the suspiciously smooth neck joint: there is a huge 5 mm magnet in there and in her head part. Her neck will hold all the hair weight long after I'm dead, lol ^^"

Ooof. Done and done!

And some extra dress ooof before I procceed to my diorama adventures:

When my lovely wooden bar arrived, first thing was to add white paper backing to the shelves and some LEDs. Namely 4, so that the shelves were lit completely. I wanted warm lights but there was a misteke in the store and I ended up with two white and two...green. I was on a tight deadline by the time so no turning back and getting new ones! My flight was in a day so green it be.

Green worked surprisingly well.

Oh, and there was also this: when organizers of the exhibition found out I;m making a bar, they asked me to use non-alcohol labels on the bottles. It's 18+ content, lol. So I gathered my love for FGO and decided it will be a craft essence bar. Proper place foe a dragon witch like Jeanne, right?

So here's my labels, printed!

And attached to the bottles I got in batch from Ali:

There was a mishap with the light switch hole in the base so... I came up with a label to hide most of the gaping hole left there.

After that I packed it all up in a huge box and after a 40hour flight got to the exhibition venue. These are not my pictures but the best we have of this lovely angry drunk :3

And later at home I did a detailed photoshoot with my humble skills.

More pictures under spoiler because there's plenty :3
