Hey MFC.

It's been almost 3 years since I hunted for a plush grail. Not going to link the entry for obvious reasons. It's retail price used to be $30. Reason for the rarity aside from the demand is due to it being a limited+exclusive.

Anyways, I looked through all my bookmarks today. Went on Yahoo Auctions and saw a listing that consists of my grail along with 2 other common plushies. In dirty condition. The current price so far is 20,000 yen. Roughly 153 USD.

That price is out of reach for me. Especially when you add up the fees and shipping from a proxy service. However, that price is way better than the typical aftermarket prices. The current listing on Mercari JP for that plush was sold for $300! I guess some people are willing to overpay regardless of the price tag. But not me. The prices I always see is around $400-$900. The 900 number is the usual asking price on Ebay.

I had this unrealistic thought on what if the seller had no luck selling the plushies and decided to lower the number? I doubt it will happen due to the high demand. But I wish.

So MFC, have you ever seen a YAJ seller reducing the price because of no one interested in buying the item for a long time?

Recently, I saw on Ebay a set of figures I wanted go for $140. It's been there for a good bit and I was eyeing it for a couple days. The same seller then put it up on Mercari JP four minutes earlier when I decided to skim through Buyee one last time to check if I could find it for cheaper before I took the plunge and they placed the price at $50 there SO YOU KNOW I HAD TO GET IT ON BUYEE INSTEAD.

Yes. I've seen it happen. I was looking for figma Levi cleaning version at a less than insane price for awhile and there was an auction on for weeks and the seller just gradually decreased the price bit by bit week by week and I finally bid and was the only bidder at 6,600 yen I recall. Maybe it could've gone lower, but with the weak yen, I figured this was the chance to try.

But let's be real, the OG version will probably surpass those movies if DreamWorks finally releases that recording.

if it doesnt sell usually it just relists at same price, i can only think of one example where like ebay, the yahoo auction seller set it to go up again but with like a 300yen discount. I waited a few weeks until it went down by about 1000 yen then i bought it since i was paranoid i would lose my chance to get the rare figure for a just about acceptable price

At first someone wanted $600 USD equivalent June 2013 so I waited. By Christmas 2013 she came down to $420 USD which I wasn't willing to fork over either. I was willing to wait and watch the trend, hopefully downward. Finally did get her a few years along for $148 from Mandarake. I doubt she's even worth that much now but I still admire her regardless. Thank you for sharing about your long journey. Stories like yours shows patience is rewarding. idk abt plushies but for the old figures i'm hunting instead of dropping the price got higher. on mercari they have exorbitant prices tho.
