One of the things I've always liked about Strike Witches is how they managed to create such a large cast of characters while giving each of them quite a bit of depth, but I just felt like the BW characters were not nearly as fleshed out. In fairness, maybe you can only create so many characters using the "moefied WWII figures" concept, but that was definitely the show's weakness.

Probably an issue with the BW cast is that they tried again to make it as 'varied' as possible, and then ending up with most characters being too similar in nationalities and/or personalities to SW as they had a great set-up there. I guess they should have gone for something completely else for a bigger chance of a succesfull series. Why not focus on Fuso or Karlsland for example, maybe in the future or past of what happened during SW! So much possibilities, but they ended up going for a set-up that was too similar to the original...they probably thought 'the original was a hit, so this is a safe choice!'.

By the way, are you watching that newest Strike Witches series now, with the shorts? I'm hearing some bad things about it, but I think I will give it a chance later and watch everything in one go instead of a weekly short episode.

BW of course also has a lot less episodes, but there could have been some things better in writing indeed. It feels like just making a Strike Witches 3 and have some appearances from the 502nd would also have been better, but I understand the choice of wanting something with 'new' characters (also thinking about the merchandising aspect of course).

One issue I had with BW, which a lot of others also seem to have, is that I kept making comparisons to SW. 'Hikari reminds me of Yoshika, Naoe reminds me of Lucchini etc.' It maybe would have been more interesting if the focus was rather on a specific country their Witches, or that they went for land- or water-based Witches. Something to make it more clear that we shouldn't compare it too much to SW...
Still, I enjoyed the series, but not as much as SW. This screenshot makes me wish for a series about the Tank Witches though: i.imgur.com/Uol...

No, I didn't preorder her since I was going to sell my entire SW collection, as you know :D
I kept with me only few figures from this franchise :D

Ah, I thought there might have been an exception because it's BW! :D I hope you still enjoy the ultra deluxe Barkhorn figure. :)

victorviper (5 måneder siden) #58304574It was nice to have a close look at this figure, as I hadn't really paid too much attention to any of the Brave Witches figures. I hadn't noticed before that Alter used a subtly different base design on this figure compared to their original SW line.
Oddly, I could never really get into Brave Witches. I tried to watch it a couple of times, but it just didn't draw me in the same way that Strike Witches did. Maybe now that it's been released on disc, I'll give it another shot...

Honestly, there isn't much going on in Brave Witches-figure-land, and I think we might can expect a couple more prize figures or otherwise 'cheaper' figures, but no more scaleds. At least we have this nice looking Hikari, she fits well with your other Strike Witches if you end up buying her one day.
